|
|
Award-winning actor Jon Voight, father of Angelina Jolie, has finally put his hat in the ring--not for those calling for American troops to beat a hasty retreat in Iraq--but for those who give more than lip service to the effort.
He joins a very small group of Hollywood types willing to go against the liberal grain (Clint Eastwood, while not vocal, is known to support the surge, for instance).
Voight, who regularly visits wounded at Vet hospitals, spoke out recently on O'Reilly. [Note: I realize you leftists despise this source but instead of attacking the messenger, listen to the message for a change]:

And there's this from an interview with a popular magazine:
Quote: |
You recently visited with wounded troops at Walter Reed. What were your impressions?
I was deeply impressed by them. Most I spoke to were young people, around 20 years old. And they were really very eloquent, very positive, very respectful. You have to be proud of the children we're turning out from looking at this group of people. For me, I would much rather hear from these guys than the people who are presenting the news on television on a daily basis.
Were you able to gauge the mood among the troopshave they lost a sense of mission?
These guys say, well, it's possible to win it. And I'll tell you one thing they said that was very remarkable: the increase in troops that has been recommended by the president, they say anybody who's over there knows the value of backup and we should be behind this. When you're out in that situation in danger, you want to know you've got backup. Only one guy said he wasn't going back to Iraq, and he had been wounded a couple times. But all the other guys wanted to go back. One young woman, a very attractive young woman, had her leg amputated. But she says she's going to find a way to get back into it. She just reupped and she said they would find something for her to do.
Do you think it's possible to win the Iraq War?
Here's what I think: this is a real war, extended beyond the borders of Iraq.
As in the more general war on terror?
The war on terror is real. People would have you believe it's not real. This is not Vietnam. This particular situation is not the same wherein we can walk away and just leave destruction behind us. No, we can't. Anyone who has paid attention to what [Iranian President] Ahmadinejad is saying, what all the mullahs are saying in this country and in England, and in all of the Arab world, this is seriousthey're calling for the destruction of America and all democracy and that's what's going on. We could lose this war. |
No liberal reading this can claim Voight is a staunch conservative, although his thinking of late has reached in that direction, as the tape makes clear. This is the actor of the anti-Vietnam War film Coming Home, which co-starred Jane Fonda.
I say "three cheers" for Voight.
And three jeers for Harry Reid, the spineless Senator and enabler of the enemy who puts partisan politics ahead of his country and his president.
[Note: if you're Canadian, don't bother posting as you have NO vested interest in this thread. However, if you insist on flaming, don't expect me as OP to douse the fire]. |

It's easy to be dismissive and cryptic; much more challenging to counter with talking points.
You are now an honorary member of the twg Club. |

I have no problem with a conservative view. I have a huge problem with neo-conservative rewriting of the Constitution, illegal warmongering and profiteering.
Good for Voigt. He's an American voicing an opinion. It's a wrongheaded opinion based on lies and the politics of fear, but so be it. Voigt seems to be honestly duped.
What I have a problem with are the liars, the scumbags re-making government as a Republican tool of power. And those that enable them.
And, really, is this a surprise after seeing that Angelina joined the CFR (or whatever it is?)
Nice piggyback, BTW. You do propaganda good. |

I'll take the trite leftwing nut-so responses I've gotten thus far as confirmation that Voight is on the right track.

What's with the family values bit? I do know that Trump publicly criticized Jolie for treating her father like crap. And we know Jolie was incredibly hedonistic. |
