I can't count the number of times I've personally seen Korean cops standing by while two Koreans go at each other. At best they try to gently push them away but I never see the cuffs come out. Even seen it right outside a police station. |
In my hometown, the police station is right on skid row. People get beaten up accross from the cop shop all the time. Of course, the cops aren't usually watching it happen, but neither do they seem to make much effort to deter this behaviour. You don't usually see them walking the beat around the station. I suspect they just shrug the violence off as "comes with the territory". |

Well, I know Seoulites consider Busan to be a backwater, but... |

Canada is not the all powerful flag of protection.
Certainly Canadians have a good eputation on the worldwide scheme, but here, Canadians are still just another foreigner is a xenophobic country.
I have never had anyone hate Canada specifically, but foreigners in general.
That teacher who got his ass kicked, I won't say he deserved it. Nothing he could do would make him deserve that. But he was out of line, and probably very drunk on gasoline.....oops I mean soju. |

I don't know how valid it is now, but certainly after the World Cup, the magical, protective status of the Canadian flag was quite easily surpassed by that of the Dutch flag in Korea. |

Itaewon is something you should do for a while when you first get here, just to eventually realise what a ****hole it is. I can't respect anyone who hasn't done time there, -and I can't respect anyone who still does after a long time. |

The 'Zone' huh? That sucks, because I remember when that used to be a decent place for a layover during a hard weekend of drinking and spending money. It was pretty calm, had some good looking waitresses; all Korean because the Wall was still up. It was kind of a sport to see how many waitresses you could get carnal knowledge of. Now that was as feat! I have some great stories from that place... The 'Jazz Station' was just below it. It had good music and food. Itaewon, oh how you've changed.. , can't remember how many times I feel down the stairs next to hooker hill...
It's a hard lesson learned to censor yourself after a few bowls of loudmouth soup....it sucks that the KNP (more than a few) are like a 5th teat!!.. |
