Many Democrats have watched and waited until the Republicans put their foot in their mouth more and more and made bad beds for themselves, and they sure did. Of course, that can lend to accusation of lacking vision, because you are relying too much for your opponent to hang himself, but it did work with the Republicans losing both houses and having a very weak president.
These poll figures probably are numbers before Tenet started attacking Dick Cheney and, thus, George Bush. I don't think either the Republicans or Democrats look good. What is more important is the country needs its own nation building as much as Iraq. America is internally damaged in some ways, and it looks too divided to me. How were LBJ's ratings in comparison? I think Bush's ratings will eventually hit 28-29% unless Iraq starts turning around. And I don't mind if he gets more popular if it means Iraq stabilizes and the troops get out of there. |
