|
|
Hi there,
just wondering if anyone's got any tips about travelling to Laos in August. Not sure how much time I'll have yet, 7 days minimum up to a max of possibly 21 days. I'll probably be mostly based in Vientiane if I go (sister and her family will be relocating there for work sometime in July).
What's a recommended route for getting there from Korea? To Bangkok and then continue? Or better to go through Vietnam or somewhere else?
Is the weather really insufferable then? Would I be better to leave it till my next lot of holidays in February, and go somewhere else this August?
Any info/advice/opinions appreciated.
Thanks |

There's a flight to Luang Prabang from Hanoi now which started up last October. Agents here can connect you via Hanoi from Seoul to LP. Never went to Vientianne but LP is absolutely wonderful...
Here are some pics if you want

August will be pretty darn hot and wet. April is the hottest month. Then the rains come and cool things off and October becomes the wettest month. From April to October is progressively more rain and thus cooler temps (only really hot, not crazy hot like April). So August is a "fringe" month between the hot and wet seasons.
The best time to go is Jan and Feb. I would wait until next winter for Laos and go to Bali, Mongolia, or a Thai or P.I. beach in August.
http://www.passplanet.com/laos/index.htm has great information for backpacking Laos. I have never been to the south but hope to go. Luang Phrabang is wonderful. |
