I had an alien registration card for the years 2005-2006...then handed it in...then came back.
When I go for my card, will I have the same number or a new number?
The number I mean is the number on the card...6 digits, date of birth, then around 7 or 8 more numbers.

Some people have said that they ended up getting the same number, but I and others ended up with a different number. I'm not really sure why.

Tell them to give you the same number, and they'll give you the same number. Otherwise, you may or may not get it.

Like JB said, it's a crap shoot. I've worked at several different places and am on my 3rd ARC card and have always had the same number. Someone said the other day (in a different thread) that the number changes after you work at a public school. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but it would suck if it is.

You might want to take YF's advice and ask them nicely if you can have the same number. It helps if you've got accounts open like a cell phone, credit card, etc.

FWIW.... I have always had the same ARC number and I have worked at a company job, hakwons, unis and now a public school.

I have also changed passports twice in that time (old ones got full).

I have always stayed in Gyeonggi province but have used different immigration offices.

Perhaps, and this is just speculation, it changes when you change provincial jurisdictions or from Seoul - province, province - Seoul.

We've already exchanged this info before in a previous thread; you seem to be one extreme and I'm at the other:

(1) I'v worked all those jobs as well, however I've had several different ARC numbers. I'm on my 4th one.

(2) me too

(3) I've spent most of my time in Seoul/Gyeonggi, but like you used different Immigration offices as well.

(4) In Seoul, I had 2 different ARCs, yet when I moved down to Jeolla, the ARC stayed the same as my previous Seoul job. Moved around Jeolla again, and the ARC changed once more.

It seems to be a crap shoot with the Immigration office you deal with. No rhyme or reason for the ARC changes or the ARC remaining the same that I can see... as ttom and my situations bear out (almost the exact same situations, yet he's had only one, and I've had four).

I know that if you explicitly request Immigration to give you the same number, they will give it to you. Otherwise, who knows?
