|

1. They love polar bears.
2. Some even look like polar bears, especially the French-Canadians (which is why many Canucks deny the east as being really apart of Canada)
3. They like beer.
4. They fight viciously if you criticize Canadian beer.
5. They have a passion for sports.
6. They are willing to throw down at a moments notice if anyone makes fun of Canadian Hockey.
7. They smile alot.
8. They are alot friendlier than your average New Yorker.
9. They are more honest then your average New Yorker.
10. They smell better than your average New Yorker because they take showers regularly. |

Erm, actually... A lot of these look like reasons people round here DON'T care much for us.
To be honest, every other thread being about Canada this or that likely does not do much to contribute to the former common perception of us as humble. So much for that. |

Why be humble? I mean, the crippling level of personal taxation, the lack of adequate funding towards "free" health care (not exactly free in British Columbia), our inability to adequately deal with the USA on the softwood lumber issue, adscam, the gun registry, Winnipeg as the slurpee capital of the world... whether we're humble or not, everybody knows Canada's the greatest!
Seriously, we started Tim Hortons, and that's reason enough for our chests to swell with pride whenever we say that we're Canadian. |

Ummm...I would say that 80% of the world's population fits this description, as does 90% of the United States...this is the best you can do?

I have spent the last several years working with Canadians who can't quit gushing about Tim Hortons. I'm not saying they're wrong, I just have never encountered the Tim Hortons goodness. If this is so fantastic, why don't you share it with the rest of the world??? I want some! Global expansion could be your ticket to getting out of the stereotypical rut of Canada being no more than hockey, maple syrup, and great comic actors who defect to take U.S. citizenship. |

Timmy's used to be owned by Wendy's, and they stupidly sold the very profitable shares to prop of the failing Wendy's.
Hopefully the new stockholders will try to expand some.
Actually, I think canadians are very average people. Kind of a meld between all the English speaking countries, with very few extremes. But then again, I come from a medium-sized city.
Most people I know just want to live a good, simple, average life. |

So long as we've got William Gibson, you can have all the comedians in Canada - and please, PLEASE take Celine with you too! |

Zurich the second most polite city in the world
Zurich is considered the second most polite city in the world, surpassed only by New York.
Peoples' manners, as polled by Reader's Digest magazine in 35 cities worldwide, rated the following politeness points:
- willingness to hold the door open for others,
- friendliness of shop assistants,
- and helpfulness in gathering spilled briefcase belongings.
More than 2000 cases were evaluated and points awarded.
The survey showed that good manners are found in rich and poor cities alike. The Reader's Digest found particular impoliteness in Asian cities. Thus rating nine of them at the bottom of the list; Taipei; Seoul, Kuala Lumpur and Mumbai. However, in many major European cities, politeness also is a foreign word. For example, Moscow and Bucharest rank low in the polls and London places a disappointing 15th out of 35 considering their super-polite image.
The test also disproved that today's youth is impolite. People under 40 are the politest of all age groups and those over 60 the least polite. Also, of those poles, women ranked higher than men in politeness.
City Rank 2006
New York 1
Zurich 2
Toronto 3
Berlin 4
San Paulo 4
Zagreb 4
Moscow 30
Singapore 30
Seoul 32
Kuala Lumpur 33
Bucharest 34
Mumbai 35 |
Jealousy of the greatest city in the world will get you nowhere.
Of course you may be mistaking "New Yorkers" with "U.N. Delegates" and that is understandable. |

Not having met anyone from New York I cannot make a comparison. |

I like Canadians, they are generally very good in bed I think their inferiority complex makes them try harder, which is always a good thing. |
