I sat on my ass last night and watched TV for quite awhile and this commercial kept getting shown. It seems as thought the slapping scene has been cut out. I saw it several times on several channels and looked closely and it looks like a new version is out.
I kind of wonder how much this site is viewed by Koreans in Korea and if it influences anything. It was asmazing what came of the Spectrumgate scandal a couple of years ago.

I noticed that as well.

Keep in mind, ESL folks aren't the only people in Korea who might object to domestic violence. Wink I had quite a few Korean friends who were surprised and a bit put off by the ad.

Agreed, it had nothing to do with this site.

Yeah, I know. It was wishful thinking.

ESLCafe forums don't even register as a blip on the avg Korean surfers radars. Why would it? I'd say that most of the Koreans who visit this site are the recruiters and directors who run ads on Daves. And of those advertisers, maybe 10% visit the forums long enough to do a search on the forums for their company or school name and see what's being said about them. And I don't know how many times that I've met teachers offline who don't even know what ESLCafe is. And look at all the long-termers on this board, who've been here for 7-8 years, but only registered in the past couple of years after stumbling across the forums. Sure this site is popular to those of us living inside it, but c'mon.

As for Spectrumgate, the reason why that disemminated very quickly among Korean netizens had more to do with one bitter Kyopo posting about it on Daum and because of its subject nature that resonates strongly with Koreans, it took off from there. But a handful of teachers in a thread buried among thousands of other threads, talking about domestic violence in Korea, on a site that Korean netizens don't visit, is a little farfetched.

No! We're foreigners! Koreans deeply care about what we think and will change their country at the drop of a hat if they think it will make their glorious ESL teachers content! All hail whitie!

Many of the animators for "The Simpsons" are Korean (check out the credits at the end of an episode), so it looks like someone's having a bit of vengeful fun at the pop princess' expense.

They've cut out the slapping scene, yes, but they've replaced it with a shot of the two of them struggling on some sort of bridge.

It's as if the commercial CAN'T exist without some sort of violence between the two of them.

Doubt it, that silly "Egyptian song" Homer did has been around ages...anyone know which Simpsons season this was from?

Despite this...I played it in my uni classes today...they absolutely loved it. Danke for the link!

!shoosh,

Ryst
