| 4th rd- Very good pick by the Steelers- Baylor's punter did a great job on a team with little talent. |

I dunno if that is a joke or just an odd stance on punting. |

| What? The Bears have little talent, and that means special teams suffer. The punter STILL was the best punter in the NCAA (won the "Ray Guy Award"). He did that while playing in the Big 12 and he did it outdoors. Very impressive. |

| Since when does punting get more difficult by conference? I read a TON about the NFl and don't think i have ever heard "steal" attached to a punter in draft talk. |

Yes, punting can be more difficult in tougher conferences when you play for the worst team.
Baylor is the worst team in the Big 12, and the Big 12 is a great football conference. An individual player, at any position, has a great deal to overcome when playing for Baylor versus teams like: Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Nebraska, and other football powers. It takes a lot to get national attention, let alone win a national award like the "Ray Guy" award.
The Steelers made a very good pick.
Smart teams understand the importance of special teams. They gain (or lose) what is called "hidden yards." It can be hard to actually measure everything special teams can do for you, but field position means a lot. |

random thoughts of mine about the draft:
i think miami took Ginn way too high and would have been better off with anyone but him at that pick. although not a fan of brady quinn, i think he will do fine in cleveland (or at least no worse than charlie frye). getting thomas and quinn in the first round was a steal IMO.
patriots went from having no WR's to having a real good WR corp.
my cardinals did pretty well...took levi brown at 5 cuz they needed OL help and no team wanted to trade down. also, picking up alan branch could be a great steal if he doesn't take off plays and gets some fire in him. also, picking up breston as a return man is a huge plus. he runs a 4.46...so not too shabby.
the eagles messed up by trading to dallas and then picking up a QB from houston. |

Quinn dropping that far was a bit strange, but the bigger issues were the glaring issues not addressed by some teams. Cincinnati has maybe the second best QB in the league, but he gets sacked 10 times a game. They need a big boost at the Oline, and instead grab a CB. Yes, their secondary needs some improvement, but not more than their oline. Staley and Grubbs were avail. Hall's not bad, but drafting the best player available isn't always the best thing to do.
the browns did great.
Moss for a 4th round pick? Something is wrong in the NFL.... |

1. The Moss trade is great because Moss won't be able to go there and be a punk.. too much leadership and too much of a winning tradition going on there.. . you think he's going to get away with bitching at Tom Brady? Great move by the Pats.. especially for a 4th rounder. Peanuts.
2. Troy Smith is too small and not good enough to be a starting QB in the NFL. |

Agreed- plus I think that Moss to NE is just for one year to WIN IT NOW. They want that fourth Super Bowl ring. BillyB was close last year and NE will tough to deny this season- if everyone stays healthy and on the same page.
For all of his many, many faults, Moss is a Hall-of-Fame receiver who lacks a Super Bowl ring. This is his best chance since the '98 Vikings.
You know, the Raiders were taken in this trade. They should have been able to get more than a 4th round pick for Moss.

Check back on this in 3-4 years. Andy Reid is shrewd, and he must know something the rest of us don't know about Kolb. Also, McNabb has had a lot of injuries over the past few seasons, so maybe he's closer to the end of his career than we know. Plus, the Eagles seem to be shifting their O from "pass first" to "run first." If they had a better running game from 2000-2003, they could have made it to four or five straight Super Bowls. |

| About Cleveland and Quinn- that's a ROUGH division to be a young QB. The other three teams (Ravens, Steelers, Bengals) all have good to great defenses. Give him time to mature and blossom. |

| I'm happy with the Bucs picks--Gaines Adams was a no brainer, and I'm glad we didn't trade away a bunch of picks for a receiver as much as I think CJ21 will dominate. They addressed the defense (7/10 picks) and helped their porous O Line (2 picks). |

I disagree with JaMarcus Russell being the first pick overall. The Raiders have a pretty bad record drafting QBs, and well, he might have had a good senior year at LSU but he ain't no Vince Young.
And yes, I agree, Quinn is overrated. |

| I agree that the Raiders seem to do a poor job of developing talented players- especially at QB. They won't be a serious contender again until Al Davis is out as owner. He runs off the good coaches. |

| Moss was the biggest steal in years. Everyone says he can't run anymore. He just ran a 4.3/40 in training in Tampa. He might be wild, but he is proud too. He knows this is his last chance to be deemed great or go down in history as an underachiever. He has the best coach in the NFL guiding him now and barring injuries, I predict he will be one of the top five receivers in the league this year. Huge steal for a fourth round pick. Smart, smart move. This one move transforms the Patriots to an even more dangerous team to be reckoned with. They do it year after year, but they have never had a rocket like Moss before. Just adds to their opponents woes, especially during playoffs where the Pats always shine. |
