Once in a while I'll get a keen kid who wants to learn how to write in cursive. When they ask, I'll write the upper and lowercase cursive alphabet in their notebooks and they'll study it at home. Usually they'll be writing in cursive in their notebooks within a couple of weeks. Some kids think it's kind of fun and they think it looks cool, so they're eager to learn it on their own.

I use these http://www.handwritingforkids.com/handwrite/tcguideu.gif

Let me know how the classes go. I find the middle+ kids seem to enjoy learning cursive.

That's fine if they're keen to learn, but I don't allow it in my class. It's hard enough trying to decipher some of their printed writing. Cursive would be a nightmare.

Thanks. Yeah, I found that one and the following:

http://www.abcteach.com/directory/basics/handwriting/dnealian/cursive/

It has pretty good worksheets although I find some of them too big. Guess it's good to have them big at first and then get them to do it in their notebooks.

I started today with my first year middle schoolers and will be teaching it to my first years on Wednesday. I'm telling them that it doesn't have to be perfect and they can eventually develop their own style. I know I don't write all the letters correctly. Like F, H, maybe I, Q, S, etc. And others are not exactly as their supposed to be.

I just thingk it's a good idea because print letters (is that what you call them?) can be so laborious. I'm getting my 5th graders and middle school students to write in notebooks now. Notebooks I keep in class. It's proven to be quite a task, but it's starting to get along much better as of late. Anyway, the quicker they can write, the better. Cursive is faster. If they all had computers, I'd teach them how to type.
