I'm looking for somewhere preferably very close to a sky train stop.
I'm prepared to pay 1000 baht or a little more for a clean, convenient place. |

I don't know what sky train is. I stayed overnight near the airport for around 1000 baht after talking to the numerous agents near the exit. "Need a hotel? Taxi?"
I recommend the Let's Go Thailand book (available at What the Book) for good recommendations. |

Bunch in the Sukhumvit area all on the sky train. Also in the Siam Square area you should find one.
Just avoid Soi 3, thats the (in)famous Nana Entertainment Plaza. The hookers will literally grab at you. Last year I stayed way down that Soi and it was a pain doing that gauntlet |

To give you some idea, one of the hotels suggested was 1250 baht per night, which the internet told me was about 35,000 won. |

1000 Baht = 30.581 USD
You can easily find a hotel for half that price in Bangkok. |

Wrong. I live in BKK and the exchange rate is very near 35 baht to $1 USD. So, 1000 baht will be around 35 US dollars. You have to go by the local currency exchange rates. Nevermind about the currency converter on the internet.

Yes you can but they aren't near the sky train. There are a few if you don't mind roaches and dirty rooms. Suk11 is good but you will need to book ahead of time as they often fill up fast.
Some poster talked about prostitutes grabbing you. Well, the reality is this is all over Bangkok and even worse in Pattaya. If you are male Farang, you will be a target. They want your money. To them, you are a money machine and nothing more. If you are female, you don't have to worry about anything like that. They leave you alone. [/quote] |

| I'm going to thailand and on my return I have to transfer between the two airports. Does anyone know how easy that is? Is there a shuttle bus between the two airports. I'm trying to get from BKK to DMK airport. |

I was there the last week of April. Highly recommend it. Good deal for your money and great location. 2-3 minute walk to Nana Skytrain station, 10 minute walk (at most) to Sukhumvit subway station. |

I always stay on KSR save my first time. Then I stayed in China town.
I don't try to distnce myself from KSR. I can't turn my nose high enough. I am KSR. The barmaids even recognize me. Same in Laos.
When I have funny travel time, I stay at a $2.50 guest house near the begining of KSR. Communual baths no tv, fan.
For a few days, there is a nice $10 guest house on KSR II pretty much at the end of the street. AC, bad TV, good beds, privacy. For a splurge, there is the something-mansion on the outside of KSR II, on the river street. Older, musty, private, AC, good TV, good roof - $20.
there is newer guest house on KSR proper, very big, good TV, really bad beds, mostly windowless rooms. Good scene at the rooftop pool.
Avoid Sawasdee guest house chain w/ the purple signs. They are just bad all around and there is 3-4 of these places.
I take late night cheap flights that put me at KSR at 4:30 AM. I hang at the 24 hour cafe on KSRII that doubles as a junk shop with all of the Asian nick knacks until check in time at a better place.
I spend one day on KSR upon departure or arrival. A week on the place is not recommended but the road is near everything, the river, free movies, the museum, the ferries. Its a good place to stay for visa runs.
I could stay at a nice place in town but I'd just watch TV. |
