When you say paying them back, I hope you're not implying financially, cos that's not really how it is. You pay them back if you have made a sucess of your life,
.

I have a very close friend who moved to the US from China when he was 14. He is no longer very close to his parents because they are angry because he doesnt send money home from work..

I have heard people here and in China say it over and over: As a son or daughter, you are you parents' investment/property.

Hater:

Would you believe both. My mother and grandmother were long lapsed Jews, so I'm a Jew. By religion I'm a Mormon.

The Mormons as a rule push their kids to college - with two years off to be missionaries for the boys. The all want to be doctors lawyers and accountants.

The Jews historically, and in my experience actually push their kids to succeed in things considered to be appropriate.

I pushed my four kids like heck. My oldest a girl has a fine arts degree in Music and works as a personnel manager. My oldest son quit in the 10th grade and makes more than any of us. Number 2 son is in Afghanistan getting shot at and the youngest has a computer degree and is teaching in Korea.

Wow, my biological dad in Korea talked about this. AM I sending him lot of money when I start working and I'm successful. I thought he was "kidding." Although, I'm not Chinese. Maybe he was serious? Question

He also expected me to live with him when I get married. I was like what a nightmare, just like those Korean family dramas where the couple lives with the husband's parents and grandparents. I feel bad for not wanting to do that, but living with daddy when I'm that old doesn't sound right unless it was a war situation and was absolutely necessary for survival.
