|
Just thinking in the shower today... Koreans live in other countries. Do they have message boards where they write their opinions and difficulties in anothers society. If so, what would they be writing... Ideas from the top of my head.
1. Where can I buy Kimchi?
2. Is it a good idea to learn English?
3. Why are these Americans, Canadians, Australians, English people so... (Add your own.)
4. Why are foreign women so... (Add your own.)
5. The smog here is killing me...
Any other ideas? |

Why do people back in Korea think that only Korea has four seasons?
Why don't more people here drive Hyundais and Kias?
Why do people wear their shoes inside their homes? |

In fact they do. Go to www.Englishliving.co.uk/johnnyrubber
Plenty of accounts by Korean students living in the UK. Koreans that bemoan this forum should check the outright nastiness to be found on that site. |

They have boards for about every country they live in. My wife and I have read them before going places. The jist of what I've seen has been
This isn't like Korea, so it is not as good.
Everyone here is a thief, so be careful
Everything here is too expensive
Thats what my wife was expecting before the UAE, than we got there, and everything was half the price of here.

Those entertainment forums are a magnet for spamming and heavy handed moderators. I guess it's an interesting chance to examine the psyche of young Koreans/Asians overseas, but really not much more than that. Don't expect the level of discussion or level headed argument you will usually see here in any of those entertainment based forums.
As for forums for Koreans living overseas, there isn't one for Australians as far as I can tell. At least not in english :) EHEHE. There are quite probably some active Korean ones, but it'd probably cater for a small niche, less than the number of users on this forum.
There are enough weekly publications disseminated in suburbs of high Korean concentration to keep everyone informed of things like "Where can I get my next Kimchi fix?".

William, well now you have some idea of what to expect in some of the other forums.
*shake head*
It's a matter of relativity. This forum is a sheer bastion of sensibility comparatively speaking.

The Koreans in the U.S. would maybe talk about these topics:
1. Why are there so many racists people; white discriminating against blacks, vise versa, against Latinos, vise versa, asians, vise versa etc...
2. Why are Americans so culturally ignorant, thinking all Asians come from same place, look alike, sound alike etc...
3. A) Who was that Asian guy who got beat to pulp in the inner-city of (name your major city) by a mob of Americans while the cops just watch and did nothing.
B) Did you guys see in the news about this poor Black man who was almost beaten to death by a group of Whites with their head shaven. I'm afraid to go outside anymore. They are everywhere.
4. Why are these migrant workers from (name your third world country in the Southern Hemisphere) being harassed and theatened with deportation and arrest just because they demand fair wages and safe working condition from the greety, American bosses.
5. I hate America ! I hate America! Last night after work, as I was going home in the bus, some White guy from Alabama ask me whether I was in the U.S. legally or whether I'm an illegal alien taking jobs away from Americans. After that, I've noticed every pair of eyes staring at me as if they have never seen a Korean!
6. Why do some Americans have bumper stickers which say, "buy American" when they drive around in cars made in Mexico or Canada?
7. Americans are all thieves!! I can't trust any of them. My grocery store is being robbed everyday, but the cops are doing nothing about it.
8. Why are there so many serial killers in America?
9. A variety of topics of Al Bundy or HOmer Simpson (American version of Ajoshi)
10. Does anyone at this forum know where to buy kimchi in Columbus, Georgia?
Last but not least,
11. Why do Americans like to sue for frivolous things. I hate this litigious society. |
