hahahaha nice... i'd love to be able to bust a couple of names out but sadly i can't (maybe more dishonest posters would have come back with 'hmm.. i spent many an afternoon sipping lemonade on the quad with aung san suu kyi'). if i had, what would your next question have been? how many have i won myself??
and yes- the US does have a huge number of nobel laureates. however the fact that the US also has a massive population, plus a wealthy, industrialised society would suggest that this should be the case.
anyway...don't think i'm bashing america, i'm not.. i totally respect the awesomeness of harvard, mit and so on.

I agree....but you have to limit the count across ALL countries. Are you saying that if we limit the count to just those who do achieve post-secondary education among the mentioned nations, the proportional results would be different?

I'm going to amend my stance somewhat and say you should keep the overall academic hierarchy consistent. I'll assume the Swiss nobel prizes go to people at the elite Swiss universities, same as they tend to go to the elite universities in the U.S. Factoring in community colleges with practically no chance of winning a prize and low ranking universities (of which the U.S. has way more) is pointless and skews your results.

Ok...lets say 50 million in the USA go to uni. and 3-4 million from Swiss pop. If you do the math, Switzerland still dominates. By far.

No, you have to see how many students are attending the top universities and average it out from there (i.e. how many students attend Harvard et al versus how many attend the top Swiss school(s)). If it means that much to you, go ahead and try it. I bet the U.S. will still come out on top (or else it'll be fairly even).

I'd have countered with some names of my own. Wink

Anyways, it's a stupid thread that only exists because demi is jealous of America.

Good to see the sensible unbiased posters. They understood my point clearly whereas a few others seem to be beating round the bush with this one.

Why is it so hard to be honest and give credit. Here's an IQ comparison site. It ranks countries proportionally.

Leopard-Skin...is this site totally unfair and inaccurate? No doubt it is from your angle.

If you're oblivious enough to find your own idiocy amusing then that's funny indeed.
