I just bought a phone number for $36 for the year. It has the same area code as the one where my family lives. So, when they call, it is free for them! The call comes straight to my computer! And, it has free voicemail. Cool stuff. You can buy phone numbers from anywhere in the world so that your family and friends can call you for free!

I've tested it and it works. So, if you are looking to save your family money, here is a good way of doing it.

It's an advantage if you are at your computer or your family doesn't have a pc.

Combine it with the Skype out feature which will then call your cell phone and it's a bit better but more expensive.

I like the idea of Skype in and out but I just see it as rather limited.

Now if you bought Belkin or Linksys WiFi Skype handset and could guarantee that you were near a WiFi spot all the time then that would be cool.

another cool thing you can do it forward that number to any other number so when you are away from your computer and your someone calls, it rings on your cell phone. you pay the skype-out fee for the call.

I would love to have the skype in feature but it is NOT available in every country like you say, with Canada being a prime example. I even thought about getting a Maine number, as my parents are just across the border, but that state isn't even offered. Hats off to you that your area code is offered though.

I'm using it. Its pretty sweet, the call forwarding feature. I bought a number in the States and my friend call it, the call gets forwarded to my cell phone in Korea.

On a call forwarded call, I pay about $.07 a minute.

Yeah, I was excited until I found out that Canada was a no-go. Oh well.
