there was a great thread earlier about a good beach in inchon....
but i'm curious about somewhere a little closer like wolmido, has anyone been there?
and how far is the beach from incheon station?
actually i can get that info at school, but if anyone has any tips at all for cool places within that area and how to get there etc.. i'd appreciate it..
while i'm about it, ..has anyone been to chinatown in inchon?
thanks. |

There is no beach at Wolmido. Traffic from the last train station to Wolmido can be hellish at times so it could take anywhere from 10 minutes to 40 by bus or taxi. It's walkable if you have lot of time to kill but the route is past the port and lots of industries- not scenic at all. The hill behind Wolmido is part of a naval base so you can't hike it. There's a seaside boardwalk, sashimi and sushi restaurants, love motels, a couple of amusement park rides, some coffee shops. I suppose if you live in Inchon you should check it out at least once just for the hell of it, but I can't think of any reason for anyone else to go out of their way to visit. I should add that I haven't been there since 2000, so I guess it's not impossible that it recieved a major face-lift since then (for the World Cup or something).
Chinatown- more Chinese restaurants than usual, but that's about it, unless it too has received a face-lift. If you're strolling through Shimpo-dong, just keep going past the Seaman's clubs towards Olympos Hotel; when you see a Chinese restaurant, you're in Chinatown. |

Interesting.... Could they have miscaptioned the photo, confused it with one of Song-do or Yeong jong do perhaps? |

hah..no..actually, what i mean is the photo looks straight out over a boardwalk without being able to tell that is there is no beach. my erroneous presumption based on hometown norm is that there'd be a stretch of golden sand attached.... |

Even if there was a beach, I don't think you'd want to go anywhere near the water around there...
I've been told that none of the fish in the sashimi joints are local- they're trucked in from Busan...
A friend of mine summed up Wolmido one evening when he said "Wow, the air pollution really makes the sunset beautiful." |

You can't talk about beaches in Incheon without mentioning the Yellow Sea Islands, which are part of Incheon. Here's a thread about them (and some other islands): http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=9093&highlight=incheon+beach.
If you can make it a full weekend, go to BatJireum Beach on DeokJeokDo. If you can only do a daytrip, go to HaNaGgae Beach on Muido. |
