Story about a Korean couple running a few laudries in the DC area. Kept losing a customer's clothes. The customer, an attorney, has had them in legal hell for two years over it.

The funny thing is, if he actually sued a fortune-500 corporate like Coca Cola, he would cash in a ton of money. But he's suing individuals for 67 million dollars who probably don't even have one million.

Yeah, this isn't funny. Sure, it's annoying if someone loses your clothes. But to sue them for 67 million? Or sue them at all?? (I understand asking for some compensation so that I could buy new clothes, but that's as far as I would go). It's incredibly heartless to go after immigrants like this (or anyone at the socioeconomic level of working at a laudromat, for that matter). This guy really needs to get a life, or never leave his house again, or something...I hope his community shames him for this.

Wonder if race plays a part in the plaintiff's motivation. He is apparently an African-American (saw him in video on CBS online) and they are Korean. I think it is clear to many of us ( I'm white, BTW ) the way many Koreans, especially those in the U.S., feel toward and act toward "hook-in salam(s)". They may have dissed him the wrong way and he's teaching them a lesson they won't soon forget.

It should be noted that they didn't just lose one pair of his pants, but rather . . from my reading of the story . . three? . . at least two . . and on separate occasions, in a period ranging from 2002 - 2005. He obviously showed restraint in 2002. What changed his mind by 2005?

My vote: They dissed him in a bad way.

If that's the case, . . . they're getting a lesson they deserve.

(I'm reminded of the times I, as a foreigner in Korea, received poor service at restaurants that didn't want foreigner to start frequenting their place. There really may be more to this story than meets the press reports.)

It is a frivolous lawsuit and I don't like it, BUT..

I have had and seen people with gripes and complaints at my Korean laundry in San Diego. They laundry acts as if they can do no wrong and have never made a mistake in their life. I saw them tell one lady in front of me that there is no way they could have made that stain, they just cleaned the blouse so well that the stain appeared from under the dirt.
Maybe some better service from all the laundries could result. Also, maybe a new outrage could result agains frivolous lawsuits. But it is very sad for this one Korean immigrant family.

I do sympathize with the judge.

I have had many of my favorite clothes lost at the cleaners owned by Koreans.

I hope the judge wins the case.

This is pathetic and is exactly what is wrong with people.

They reimbursed him for the first pair of pants, or maybe the second, and then he refused reimbursement after that. The man is a judge and is the most childish person I have ever heard about. He wanted to wear his favourite pair of pants to his first day of work?? How old is he? 12? He is suing for pain and suffering... over a pair of pants. Then they eventually find his pants and he says they aren't his.

I hope the family wins and they counter-sue him for real pain and suffereing.

why did he not just go to a different Dry Cleaner after the first one. he must have been happy with the results if he kept going back even after they lost his pants the first time.

apparently, part of the money in his claims comes from the fact that he will now have to rent a car to travel to a new dry cleaner for the rest of his life.... $50 evey 2 days or something equally as absurd...

True story from Canada. I was a lawyer there for quite a while.

A friend and I went to Dairy Queen and one of the girls on the counter was wearing a button that said: Please be patient, I'm a beginner.

On of my friend's partners was being appointed as a top level trial court judge.

We talked Dairy Queen out of one their buttons. Put it in a box from an expensive, upper market jewelry store and gave it to him as a gift. God bless him. He wore it on his robes the first day in court.
