|
|
Okay. I just found out that in a few hours I have to teach an English consisting of other Elementary School teachers. They're all very nice, so I'm not too worried, but most speak very little (if any) English. My Co-Operator told me to plan a game or song for them, but most are older than me and more experienced, so I would feel a little stupid leading them in a round of "Hello, Minsu, Hello".
Does anyone have any advice? I'm sure this has been asked before but I can't get the search engine to work. |

Tell them to introduce themselves.
Name?
Age?
Sex? Yes or No.
Favorites?
Hates?
Family?
Hobbies?
etc.? |

Try a textbook like Jazz English (assuming they can do the basics). Or try www.finchpark.com/books and the "Tell Me More" series if they're of a lower level. |

I'm using a combination of things. A book called "Communicate" by David Paul. It has some low level dialogues and exercises.
I am also using a reading textbook. We go through one story and one lesson per class. The numbers keep dropping though. I'm not sure if it's what I'm doing that's the problem or just that teachers have busy schedules. |

David Paul's One Card is awesome. There were four decks of cards when I tried it; don't know if there are more now. Find it and try it. It teaches present continuous and daily/leisure activities. Useful stuff. |

Luckily, I don't have to do that. Why don't you try something really boring like having the Ss walk around the room and meet others and say hello and goodbye 100 times each, then maybe next week no one will show up. Or just do what you usally do. |

Try the Side by Side books. Its fits Koreans' learning styles (structure and memory). If any actual conversation stems from it, all the better. |

I agree with the side by side referal. Also a good book for a beginning teacher to use, to get their feet wet. Provides structure but offers the chance for the teacher to spin off and be creative/humorous too. I got my feet wet in ESL with this book way back in 1993!!!!!!!
I have a whole series of Side by Side on powerpoint put together by a couple of colleagues, on my site and with links to the others....
Look in my ppt presentations folder....also note the other Side by Sides link ....
