I was in Itaewon on Saturday and saw the food festival. There were some booths/stalls setup. I'm not sure if its still going on.
I saw maybe 10-12 stands. There was also a stage that you could see from the main street, directly across from the Burger King. Some bands where playing there. |

It's going on until Saturday May 5th. The only site that seems to have any info is the Aussie Shop.

I knew they were good for something! |

Avoid the Aussie Shop stall though - five bucks for a microwaved meat pie that WILL give you diarrhea and indigestion; just because Southern Hemispherean pies are scarce in Korea is no reason to be subjected to that over-priced crap.
There are other stalls to choose from, thank god - I just wish Itaewon would have stuff like this going on each day during the summer - great atmosphere, good crowd, outdoor drinking and dining - the way it should be, dammit! |

err ... I beg to differ. The pies are fresh baked in the stall. Did you actually eat a pie and suffer the physical ailments you described? BTW I think $5 is more than reasonable for a hand-made pie. You're looking at $10-15 at other eateries in Itaewon ... |

I can never figure out why some of my students translate something purchased in Korean won to US dollars rather than express it in the currency used. I have heard; they are helping me because I am not Korean and may not understand the local currency. ( sorry, I get paid in the local currency and buy things with it everyday) But the second one is possible; it is easier to say fifty bucks rather than fifty thousand won, since it is hard to say thousand. In any event , can you imagine doing that back home? Expressing something in other than Canadian dollars or Euros? Translating to the currency of the person ( you think) is used to? |

What exactly IS a Southern Hemispherean pie? How is it different from the Northern Hemisphere's meat pies? |

In most of Canada they accept real American money along with that monopoly money they call currency.

I didn't eat there, but I walked through the food festival. The food looked pretty good. I would have eaten there, but I wanted to have Mexican food. |
