I saw it on an IMAX screen last night and it was pretty good. Overall, it was less violent then the second one and had a better story. I will warn you though, the first major fight/battle scene comes unexpectantly and will catch you off guard.
I have seen an IMAX movie before, but not a regular full movie on an IMAX screen. The screen almost feels as though it's "hugging" you because it's so large. |

Well, MM2 and I weren't too kind to Spiderman 3 here, but it was hardly the worst movie of all time. Indeed, comparing all movies of all time that I've seen, S-M 3 is significantly above average. And in many respects, better than the average for it's genre.
But when judged on its own merits and against other cartoon-hero franchises (Batman, Superman, X-men, etc.) and indeed against the first two Spiderman films, it was a disappointment and a bore. Either that or my personal tastes and tolerance have changed abruptly between S-M2 and this one. Never has the plot felt so contrived, so forced, and afterthought-ish. It was like they said, "Okay, we've got these six (or however many) massively expensive fight/action scenes that are gonna chew up 70% of our budget. Now quick, somebody ring the script department and have them connect the dots. Let's put this sucker in the can by October!"
Nobody goes to a cartoon-hero flick expecting credibility or deep character development. But then the plot's not supposed to be THIS clunky, this wince-inducing, nor are the supporting characters THIS unengaging.

Hottest, huh? That sure wasn't the reaction where I was.
Okay, surprising was the fact that, despite this being the world's 3rd (or whatever) most populous city, despite it being the Friday night before Screamin' Korean Kids Day, and despite this film still being in its debut -- despite all that, the cinema was about 4/5 empty. Looked like about 50 ~ 70 people (10 of them being uniformed young conscriptees who scampered out half-way through it) in a theatre that seats 400 or thereabouts. Bizarrely echoey.
Anyway, the most audible crowd reaction of the whole film were those few scenes with head shots of that "Russian daugther" girl. There were peels of laughter at (I'm assuming) her big bug-eyed, goose-necked, gawky-looking foreigner-ness, because they'd hoot & howl even when she had no lines, even when there was no intended humour. They probably thought she was hired purely for her mirth-inducing "physical deformities", much like Leonard Nimoy was hired to play Spock because he got them pointy ears.
Despite liking the first, and well, enduring the second with a smile, when you get to this three-quel you just don't care about their histories, their issues, anything about them.
Superman Returns was just overly long. Spiderman 3 has you groaning "Hurry up and end" and then dashing for the exit before the credits roll, the lights come on, and the locals can see you're a whitey. There are plenty of Western films that leave me walking out the door with my head held high and proud amongst the sea of (shorter) departing locals. But this sure ain't one of them.

To each his own.
BTW- she is HOT. Don't judge beauty by the reactions of Koreans in a movie theater. |

Good flick.
Except for the row of noisy little 10-year fuckers sitting behind me. |

I went to Suwon with a coupla friends yesterday to check out the folk village, but having been up until dawn yesterday morning we slept in and got to Suwon too late to catch the village - so we went to Spiderman 3, instead.
The action was good - it was definitely a movie to be seen only once and on the big screen. What I dig the most about it is the vint of it - that era of the comic series was a high point. There were at least two scenes that I remember from the comics (the intro of the black suit - hanging upside down, and the steeple scene) and I loved them then. It was cool and kind of uncanny to see them on the big screen.
I just finished watching Empire of the Sun again - some movies can be seen over and over and SM3 isn't one of them. That said, even with a killer hangover it kept me awake. A little long, for sure, but fun... |

I stand by what I said, but I think that many or most of you will enjoy Spiderman 3 more than I did. We've got Beaver and Kimchi Story both liking it, and that says a lot. I think something's broken deep inside of me. So go and see it! |

No, Spiderman 3 was good, but not great. I enjoyed it, but I didn't walk out of the theater thinking "Holy effing $#!t was that good!" Rest assured, JG, it ain't you, it's the movie.
For some perspective, here are some moves that Thunndarr walked out and said "Holy effing $#!t was that good!"
Pulp Fiction
Reservoir Dogs
Sin City
Once Upon a Time in Mexico
Vampires (Yes, I really liked that movie.)
Army of Darkness
Spiderman 2
Edit: Oh, and That Darn Cat |

OK seconded - it was definitely charming but I didn't wet myself (like I did in True Romance). |

The movie reviewer in the Financial Times agrees with you. |

Well, I won't compare Sipderman 3 to "Silence of the Lambs" or "Citizen Cane" but it was a nice way to spend a few hours in the movie theater. A movie doesn't have to be the greatest of all-time to be fun to watch. |

As some of you guys may know... I'm a big superhero fan.
That being said, this movie barely gets 3/5 from me. While I love Spidey and all of his weby goodness, this movie was just too choppy and over done.
It felt like some things were added in after just to put a message out
-Spidey swinging andthen almost posing by the starsnstripes
-Spidey products everywhere
Thumbs up for JJJ, MJ, The Sandman, and Gwen. The rset bit. |

| 3/5 is too kind. The movie was long and boring. The fight scenes were not unlike the CGI Starwars crap that George Lucas usually sells us. This movie should have been called Peter Parker, not Spiderman. It was well over thirty minutes before Spiderman (fully costumed) finally turns up. |
