I went to give blood in taiwan a few weeks ago. They turned me down, saying they weren't supposed to accept blood from someone with a British passport.
Maybe taiwan is also very AIDS paranoid, because all foreigners need an HIV test to get a work visa, and failure means virtually instant deportation.

First of all, I know for a fact that in Canada, they never accept any foreginers' blood especially if they don't have any proper health documents with them!!!
It's Not just Korea man!!! Probably Every countries are doing the same thing!!!
Second of all, what do you think 'bout a Korean guy teaching Korean, going up to an American nurse in the U.S and speaking to her in Korean and keep saying" Take my blood!"?
Third of all, quite recently there were reports about two patients being given donated blood that had contained AIDS virus from the national hospitals that are known to be really strict about checking the donators beforehand and that certainly includes checking the documents.
So a guy like you, a foreigner without having any proper health documents would have to be welcomed with open arms?
I don't think so!!!

in the years I've been here, Korea has said or done something
more disgusting than that at least 97 times.

Especially when I consider ...
Once upon a time I was insisting on giving blood
in LA. After a thorough check of my background, the technicians
decided I'd had too many conditions, from pneumonia to arthritis
to hay fever and plenty of others, to give blood. But in the end
I won out and convinced them to let me give blood. They took
a pint, and I sauntered over to the cookie table to refresh myself.
Just as I attempted to sit down, I passed out on the floor and nearly
cracked my head open. Yeah, I showed them, I tell ya.

Its sad but true- on average, westerners are more likely to have AIDS than koreans. Of course that doesn't mean that we all do.
If I had a group of 100 miscellaneous westerners and a group of 100 koreans, and had to put money on which group would have people that test positive for HIV, i'd say the westerners straight away. Wouldn't you? for plenty of reasons: a higher ratio of openly gay people doesn't come into it, but the fact that westerners have travelled and had jiggy around the world more, does.
HIV infection is still fairly low in Korea I believe. But when it does hit, the culture here will ensure that it hits big time. All those ajosshis spending weekends with pros before returning to their wives, etc.
If i was the korean govt., i'd probably restrict foreign blood donations to people who have passed a recent test. Every country has to protect against the horrible disease in their own way.

Don't ALL blood donation places SCREEN the blood!!! If so, What the hell is the bloody problem?!

That's true of course. But I think that is precisely the problem. I could be wrong here, but I get the distinct impression that the Korean blood service doesn't screen their blood for alot of the diseases Western countries do as a matter of course.
However, I am on firmer ground when I say that the Korean blood donation system has been rocked by scandal after scandal in recent years.
It's no wonder they're paranoid.
Personally I'd take 'American' blood over Korean any day. At least I can be reasonably confident they screened it for the basic diseases.

They are really strict about taking blood in any country (except maybe China). But I've never heard of anyone being turned down based solely on their nationality in the US. However, if you are from the middle east or africa i understand it is nearly impossible....
