So on Friday I was at Yongsan with a buddy of mine. We were looking at video games, when all of a sudden we hear a commotion. A foreigner started yelling, calling the shop keeper all sorts of names. I didn't actually witness what had happened, but from the foreigners perspective, he said he had picked up an item to see if it was what he needed. After which the shop keeper came over and took it out of his hands and said he wasn't to touch it. I think it was a cable of some sort.

At any rate, he starts yelling at the top of his lungs that he F'ing hates this country, says that Korea is full of racists, starts calling everyone around him C$%^&. Calls a Korean friend of his, and tells them to call the cops because he was assaulted. Eventually another Korean stepped in, and calmed him down, and removed him from the situation.

It made me and my friend feel bad, because in the end, it gives foreigners a bad image. Even if he was in the right, I believe he handled the situation poorly. I just think cooler heads prevail.

Sounds to me like he handled it the Korean-way when one is feeling wronged. Good for him for assimilating himself into the culture.

[sarcasm]It only makes all foreigners look bad because "Korea is full of racists," everyone is a "C$%^&." [/sarcasm] It is unfortunate that each of us is responsible for the way all of us are viewed, but that comment is best reseved for threads focussing on Cho Seung-hui.

Bottom line: dumb-ass foreigners suck the hind tit.

Shortly after the VT incident, whenever one of my students started behaving erratically, I shook my head and muttered, "Aigo... Cho Seung-hui?"

Some of the girls cried, "Teacher, no...!"

Ha ha. I love messing with hangookin.

that's funny. after a minor dispute with a morning loudspeaker truck owner and my coworker turned a bit ugly, this bilingual ajumma intervened and tried to calm things down. my buddy asked the guy in polite korean to turn his speaker down as it was 8am. two days after VT.

the korean guy just waved him off, which i find out of character, usually those guys are cooler than you'd think. so my friend got a bit irate with the guy and started pointing at his speaker wires as if he was going to rip them out.

ajumma intervenes and eventually sends truck guy on his way.

she gave my friend a friendly lecture "you should be more polite, you should talk to people differently. you are a foreigner."

he responded, "i started off being polite, but the truck ajosshi refused to be polite in return"

"but you are a foreigner. you shouldn't act crazy here!"

and the zinger...

"well i'm not going around shooting 33 people, am i?"

"oh, i think i have to go now."

Yeah, I think the original point of this thread is that the foreigner exploded, saying a bunch of retarded things about Koreans. I see that reaction on this board a lot and generally it's the result of a person who's not settling down properly in this country. If you go around saying "Koreans are racists! I hate this country!" you shouldn't be here, plain and simple.

but my friend's zinger played upon the national shame that many koreans felt about the incident - which is why the woman got all uncomfortable with continuing to insinuate that my friend was "crazy".

We should all wear the V tech shirts they have for the shootings, So koreans can always remeber what happen. Because if one English teacher did that every foreigner would be shipped out of Korea in a blink of an eye, or be chased thru the streets.

The only thing that would prove is that we're pettier and more spiteful than they are.

To say that "...all Koreans are racist..." is in itself a fairly racist statesment, n'es pas?

I love irony.
