Is anyone else worried about the new update for Xbox Live? Apparently it will no longer be possible for users outside of North America to download NA Arcade games, demos, DLC, or movies. This applies even if you are using a real NA machine and a NA XBL account.

This is a licensing issue. MS cannot legally sell material licensed for the US outside of the US. They could get sued by the copyright holder for doing so. Why would you want to pay for these things if you can get them for free on the internet from torrents or direct download.

The spring update is introducing Windows Live Messenger intergration among other things.

I could care less about not being able to download the region specific demos, etc. What does worry me is that supposedly this update will make it so (if you have your firmware flashed to so you can play backups) you WON'T be able to play backups on LIVE or on your console anymore. Some people might say "ok well I just won't connect to live the" but supposedly future games coming out will have this code included forcing you to update if you want to play them. I am crossing my fingers that they are wrong, let's hope so.

Well that is illegal too so not too surprising. Has it been confirmed yet?

How come no one on my friend's list plays Geometry Wars?

Crazy bastards!

I dont care about movies, I'm worried about XBL arcade games, expansion packs, and downloadable content (new characters, maps, etc.).

All those will still be available in Korea, I wouldn't worry. Its only the video marketplace which will have restrictions. I have a Korean account and I can access all those things.

I am not that much of a tech to flash the drive myself, but if you are in the forums of blackcats you can find a step by step how to flash. A buddy of mine said you can even see clips on youtube how to do it. That is where he also found a clip explaining how to see what kind of drive you have. Good luck..........

I didn't have any problems accessing stuff with my N.A. account after the update, so it doesn't appear to have done anything to strengthen regional blocking.

People are saying to still be cautious as Microsoft in the past waited a month after updating before banning people from live on Xbox 1. I think I might wait a bit, like some other people are doing. Soon the Halo 3 beta starts and people guess that could be a time that people might start getting banned.
