Well, after months of diligently using the search function and gathering information I am finally at the point of asking a few questions myself.

I am hoping to be in Korea within the first few weeks of June and am debating between either Seoul or Busan. I've read quite a few threads comparing both and one such thread had a comment that caught my eye... that Seoul is quite large so in comparison to NY, if you want to live in Manhattan don't get stuck in Long Island (sorry I don't remember the poster to give credit).

So I started looking at city maps trying to determine what area's would be best for me, and frankly I've gotten nowhere. I was hoping that maybe a few people that live in either city could give some advice?

I would like to live somewhere central, where it's fairly easy to get to shopping and nightlife. My favourite activity on a day off is heading to a coffee shop and doing some reading or drawing and running through our local park. Basically, I want to be close to a greenspace and be able to travel around the rest of the city with ease. Is there a neighbourhood in Seoul or Busan that would meet this discription? Does either have a Bohemian district? Names of subway lines/stops would be great as it seems to be the info that most potential jobs offer.

Ttukseom subway station on line number 2 is near to the Seoul Forest. It's not an actual forest, but a man made one, but there are lots of trees, grass etc and even though it is normally full of people, it is still quite peaceful.

There ar eno "natural forests" in Korea. During the Japanese occupation the country was stripped of all the trees. Some say for lumber, local folk lore says it was because Korea could not spawn a great leader without trees.

At any rate all of the forests that you see today is due to the efforts of school children in the republic. At least in my wifes day she planted a tree every arbor day wit hal lthe rest of the children in her school, they visited the mountains surroundin hapchon and planted trees.

If you look at the mountains today you will see patterns of different types of trees, the patterns a far more angular than those you would see, for instance in the white mountains of NH in the USA.

I was here in the seventies, the trees were growng the forest were not as lush, upon returning here this year the difference in the forestization is quite noticeable.

Not to hijack the thread but I thought folks would like to know that.

I'm in the same predicament. I'm pretty drawn to Busan at this point, but where in Busan to go?

And anyone in Busan, is the weather that much better? I'm from the midwest in the US and our weather is pretty crap. Oceanside is generally better weather, is that the case in Busan? It's hard to know what to believe in some of these forums.
