I have a friend who just started working for a regular kindergarten (aka children's house). They just told her that they would not be able to sponsor her visa because it's illegal for kindergartens to teach English in Korea. But hagwons and public schools are allowed therefore are allowed to hire foreigners. She has already began to look for another legit position and is not working for the kindy any longer.

My question is, is this actually correct? I mean legally. I couldn't find any information on this to confirm or say otherwise. Anyone else know?

Thanks for your responses and help in advance. ^^

It is true...the kindy schools like Wiz Island do not have a kindergarten license. They have a normal academy permit. To open a kindergarten ( government) you need to take a special degree and to work at them you also need this training degree. Foreign teachers are not allowed to work in the government kindergartens and they can't sponser a visa. E2 people work there illegally...many of course do work in these schools. The ministry of education has rules about the government kindergartens and there are requirements to work there and western teachers never have them.
