********FAN DEATH 2007 ALERT********

Hi All,

Just a quick reminder- Fan Death Season 2007 will rapidly be upon us.

Make sure that while using your fan to take all precautions necessary to keep you and yours safe this season. Leave your windows and doors cracked and don't let the fan blow directly in your face while sleeping.

Its going to be a hot summer and we know that means incidents of fan death will blow through roof if were not careful.

A lot of you have probably already taken your fan from the veranda, discarded the Emart plastic bag covering it, and dusted it off. When you plug that bad boy in and push the BLOW button, please remember to observe the precautions outlined in this safety alert. The life you save could be your own!

This message brought to you by Hammerlert.

This beast killed the Kang family in Hwasung last year.

The fans have already nearly taken lives in Korea. Remember those guys who decided to commit suicide together by fan. They're just lucky they changed their minds.

There's an Avenger of Fan Deaths creeping around other boards. I wonder if he'd gotten around to these Kangs yet.

Its great fun getting Koreans to explain exactly how fans actually kill people. Apparently a single fan can make a room so cold that you'll die of pneumonia in the summer!

Also apparently fan death does not take place in other countries because Koreans are uniquely vulnerable to cold.

Actually if you keep the fan blowing in your face it cuts down on the snoring, quite considerably.

No actually it aids in breathing.

You see snoring is cause by the position of the jaw during sleep, (they have a term for for it, apnia or something and doctors prescibe a mask and a compressor) the fan forces air into the the airway keeping the various pieces of fatty flesh from obstructing the airway, the air pressure is far less the exhaling pressure.

peace out

I have asked my students about fan death, and they have no idea what I am talking about. I think it is a western myth, not a Korean one.

Oh it's real. Korean myth that is. I think your students are just afraid to admit they once thought (or maybe still think) it's true. A lot of older folks are adamant about it.

I know Korean people are shocked when I tell them that there has not been one reported case of fan death anywhere in the world, outside of Korea Shocked

I'm in Mexico right now, it is blistering hot, but my students believe that if a fan blows directly on you you will get sick. so we have to point the fan at the wall.......

Also a lot of my students have told me that if you eat watermelon when you are hung over you will die. If you don't die you will be very, very ill.

I asked for an explaination and I was told that watermelon is VERY cold, and when you are hung over your stomach is VERY hot. If you eat the cold watermelon, your stomach will go into shock and you will most likely die. Confused

I have also been told, in other countries, that eating bananas at night gives you parasites and that drinking water makes you fat.

Sadly, I thought that too. then I found out that Koreans actually belive this. It greatly diminished my respect of Koreans. Of course, most westerners believe in a man-god in the sky who sends you to hell if you don't believe that he sent his son (who, strangely enough is also god) to die to save you from the hell that He created for you in the first place.

I've been sleeping with a fan blowing on my face for the last ten years. And to think all this time I've been taking my life in my own hands!
