Of course this is totally hypothetical.
I'm just curious.
If you did something slightly illegal, like hmmm... say taught a private lesson, but no longer taught the private lesson...could immigration bust you for it anyway?...if they had proof of course.
Just wondering. |

| A crime is a crime and a criminal is a criminal. Not sure about the statue of limitations. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. |

rokricky- Yes, they can throw the book at you. If you've been doing it for a long time and feel that you're about to get in big trouble because you may get caught, then your best bet is to go to immigration and beg forgiveness. They could still throw the book at you, but being humble and apologizing BEFORE being caught could get you off the hook.

Nah, don't go looking for trouble and apologizing and begging for mercy. Take the next flight out of K-land and return after a year or so. |

Talk about throwing rational thought out the window. By your flawed reasoning a rapist = teaching a private. A criminal's a criminal, amiright? Damn those private-teaching scumbags, ruining this wonderful society with their filthy activities.

Um...I was actually just wondering. There is no situation.
But here's another question.... if you're teaching someone for free, can you still get in trouble for it?
I "teach"(mostly we hang out and eat cookies, but sometimes I help her out with her grammar workbook) one of my best friends from time to time, of course I would never dream of charging her, but I guess that's what everyone says when they get caught by immigration...."I was teaching for free I swear!". |

I knew of a guy that was depressed at not being able to communicate with anyone due to the extreme difficulty of the Korean language. A local person that spoke English offered to help him learn Korean. As the foreign guy was being watched constantly wherever he went, it wasn't long before he was turned in for teaching privately. His school was called and he was contacted by a government agency. The government agency told him that it was not OK to trade English lessons for Korean lessons.  The guy was not punished by the government however his relationship with the school wasn't as good, and his overall opinion of Korea went down as well. |

It's Fcked that the government could intervene on a friendship when there is no money exchanged.
TECHNICALLY it is illegal, but only a right di ckhead (at immi) would bother trying to punish the guy.
Now THAT would be a FANTASTIC story to read in a western newspaper "American deported for befriending Korean woman".
