Hey~ this is my first year over here, so I'm hoping to get some info on the mud festival in July. I'm looking over the website, but was hoping to get some insight from people who have done it/know about it. I am definitely planning on going, although I clearly won't be able to get the week off

Anyway, I'm assuming that I should start booking things now, since I heard that it was extremely popular. Any thoughts on places to stay/best day(s) to go/anything along those lines would be awesome. Thanks so much, and if anyone is trying to get a group of fun people together to go check out the scene, please drop me a line!

Call me a snob, but do you really want mud that's been all over everyone else to be on you, too? It seems quite nasty and germy to me.

Pissed rain all week last summer, which kind of sucked, but it was still a good time. I'll probably go back again.

Get your train tickets well in advance, get there as early as possible on the day you're going, and you shouldn't have trouble finding a decent A/C 민박 (min-bak) that can sleep up to 10 people. Nothing luxurious, but is a cheap place to crash.

Shop around on the beach and you'll be good to go. I've only had problems when I booked in advance and found that the place was a fleabag roach motel, despite the awesome pics on their website.

Haven't been myself, but I hear it's very touristy. I saw a video on the site and 70% of it was of foreigners and the rest were Korean performers. That said, I'm going to try and go this year. Especially since I won't get my touristy fix becuz I'm skipping Pentaport this year.

1) i think i'll be ok with the touristy thing... i haven't really done anything touristy over here, and i could maybe go for being around a ton of foreigners. maybe i'll regret that thought, but personally, i have no problem with debauchery and drunken waeguks playing in mud.

2) there are very few things more fun than mud, especially combined with booze. back home, we used to go mudsliding whenever there was a heavy rain/hurricane. how is it more germy than walking where other people walk/breathing polluted air?

seoulsucker- thanks for the tip... just to clarify, i should be ok then as long as i can book a train down there? and how long do most people stay? just for a day/couple of days? i'm so clueless, its sad... and unfortunately, the people i work with aren't really the mud festival sorts so i can't get much info from them...

VERY touristy. More like 80% foreigners, and drunk ones at that.

If I see another group of Canidiots chanting "Dae-han-min-guk!" inside the Mud Jail this year, I'm going to boycott the festival forever.

Best part?

조개구이 (shellfish on the grill) and pig on a spit in the tents. F'n awesome. Don't miss out on that.

So, can anyone tell me when it is on this year? Am I wrong in saying the website has info for 06 not 07?

Also, really stupid question but WHERE is it? my map totally sucks..

Sounds like a good festival tho. What is the beach like? and when you say cheap accom. how much is cheap.?

My perception of last year's Mud Festival:

-A bunch of frat boys homo-erotically trying to wrestle each other in the mud.

-Their girlfriends sort of, like oh my god, trying to get into it, like oh my god, to the chants of the guys on the sidelines. Like oh my god. And, like, screaming. Totally.

-Obnoxious Korean girls looking for some white meat screaming everytime mud, water or a gentle breeze touched their skin. Yet totally willing to get soaked in water and mud for the benefit of above mentioned white meat.

Having said all that, it was sort of fun, not that I'll be back this year. Its almost all foreigners and its got a real springbreak feel. Having avoided springbreak in my Uni years because I'm better than that and I'm not afraid of saying so (also, I was poor), it was like watching Animal Planet. But good company saved the day.

I went the weekend before for some work related stuff and it was mostly the same without the noise and prices. The mud is still there. We were able to book a room that week right on the beach for a reasonable price. I don't remember the name. If you can, get a Korean friend to find/call one for you. They'll get a better price than you will. And buy your tickets, there and back, before you go. Drink heavily and bring fun people. Do I even need to say that? At the very least it finally let me know that I didn't miss anything on Spring Break and I got some kick ass mud soap to boot!

i mean, like, i totally want to go and like, hang out with some of my biotches and like oh my god get like muddy and like check out all the hot guys chugging beers, you know? like, itll sooooo be like sb2k6, its not even funny!!! like, where can i go to like check out the like totally hottest guys ever, you know?!?

anyway, in all seriousness, i guess i too can go and pretend that i'm on spring break or something (i was also "too cool" aka "too poor" to hit the cancun/cabo/insert stereotypical std-laden location of the year).

jane~ i googled "korean mud festival" and found all the 2007 details on their official website. i would post the link, but frankly, i'm a lazy jerk. sorry. it sounds like my kind of thing, although i'm just more concerned about logistics. i have found that the whole "detail" side of these things never seems to make it onto the websites of korean festivals.

sooo... i know i'm repetitive, but general consensus is that i'm ok not to book a place to stay? and REALLY, when do most people go? i want to get the train tix in the next day or so, but don't want to screw it up too badly...
