Apples!
Yes apples, try a three day apples only diet. Wait a month then do four day apples only diet. Increase each month to seven days. Use fresh apples differing varieries, make apple sauce, bake apples, apple juice, slice and dice to your hearts content, do not add sugar or any other ingredient, just apples. This will cleanse not only the digestive track but every cell in your body will be invigorated and cleansed.

How do apples cleanse every cell in my body? links to some scientific research that backs up these wonderous claims would be nice. |
Check out the link I left and buy the book!

I had a look at that site already. I may be missing it but I don't see any links to scientific research on this subject. Apples cleansing every cell in your body(since when do your cells need cleansed) is a pretty big claim. Help me out and link to the scientific research on the site as I can't find it. |

I'd go along with that.
What do you imagine is in your body anyway? You know what they say about people who always feel they are dirty in some way............
De-toxing is something sold to rich, bored Californians who can't understand why they are rich but unhappy.
'Maybe a de-tox wll make me happy!'........ |
i was very skeptical about the whole cleansing thing myself.
i always thought it was a bit extreme and just another crazy fad made up by the new age weirdos...
but having done two fasts i can tell you it really has done amazing things for my health. primarily by bringing things back into balance. i see fasting as a reset button for my body.
after a few months of eating processed, prepackaged, cafeinated, over-sugared, over-cooked, over-whatever foods, its nice to give the body a break and do some spring cleaning.
fasting is one of the oldest most traditional health options known to man. every civilization has fasting as part of its medical tradition. even the judeo-christian bibles advocate it.
in fact even animals when ill will voluntarily fast.
the best thing i can suggest is to just try it.
i'm sure we've all heard of the ide athat all foods are drugs.
will fasting and limiting intake of foods really brings this home.
cause the states of clarity you experience during a fast alone draws me to this practice.
just think of that hazy, drowsy, mental states we have after eating a big lunch, and consider the exact opposite of that mental state and you can imagine what it can be like fasting.
i'll stop cause i'm starting to sound like one of those weirdeo, a regular jack lalane..lol
btw- someone commented that fasting would be diffiocult to do while teaching.
actually the master cleanse is not a true fast becuase you are conusming all the energy source necessary (maple syrup) to maintain your energy level. of course you wouldn;t be full strength but certainly enough to perform our daily activities.
i suggest people who are in a health/energy rut to do little research on fasting!
cheers! |
dude you are drinking sugar water. I'm pretty sure that does not satisfy most of your dietary needs. Try to eat healthy all the time(or most of the time) and you will feel ok. I read the blurb on that website and it is funny.

It gives you energy(I'll ignore the misuse of the word) because it seems to be made primarily of sugar! Big surprise. What's Vitality? How do you measure it? Has this been scientifically tested? |

let me clarify that maple syrup will provide all the energy needed for the fasting period.
fasting is not some permanent diet habit. it's an occassional vacation for your diegstive tract and also a great and natural way to clean the inner works.
sure a healthy diet and regular exercise is essential and should be relied upon more than any other practice, but even if you lead a very healthy lifestyle what would be the drawback of doing a fast?
it's not like you're taking a shot of heroin or something.
of course if you have special health conditions like anemia, pregnancy, cancer, etc. i would not advise a fast without consulting your doctor.
but for the average individual, an occassional fast can only do good.
i always thought of myself as relatively healthy and doing very well for my numerical age, still that first fast really made me sensitive to how subtly my body was a bit off balance.
finally, i think the fasting option is a great tool for people who are in transition points of their lives.
for those who want to quit drinking, quit smoking, lose habits, and wanting to change their lifestyle, fasting can help you. |

I've been there a few times (5?)- you do a 7 day fast, clean out your system completely. Very relaxing - get a massage every day, herbal steam room, ahh.
When I go there and do a fast, I finish with clear skin, "really bright eyes" (people tell me that for weeks after) and your armpits smell like coconuts.
You're actually taking in tons of liquids, carrot juice, coconut water, but they have a great package that you just follow. Easy.
If you have a long holiday, take your 3 or four weeks backpacking around SE Asia, and then finish up with a week at the spa. You'll come back lookng so good that you won't have trouble convincing coworkers of the benefit of your taking long holidays.[/url] |

Why would I want to only drink maple syrup drink for a week. What is the point? Why do you assume the 'inner works' need to be cleaned? As an animal we have evolved over a very long period time, it would seem odd that we would require internal cleaning of this sort now.
Where is the scientific research that shows fasting(with maple syrup drinks) is good for your health? There seems to be a few asumptions here that I am not sure have been proven. |

This sounds awesome. Like I said before, you can't fast for 7-10 days while carying on with your some lifestyle...going to work, teaching kids, walking to and from the hagwon, etc. You'd end up collapsing and having to take a trip to the hospital. Fasting in a spa, where all you do is lie around, would be perfect. |

They have really good yoga instructors, too. I really suck at yoga (I know, I know, it's not supposed to be competitive) but I always give it a try when I go.
I can count about a dozen people among my extended circle of friends who've gone since I started going to "enema island" way back when, and everyone's had good things to say about- except one who brought his mother who picked up some kind of bug and ended up severely dehydrated and in hospital... I guess she didn't know if her "symptoms" were a result of the fast or not.
Let's just say it does stuff to you. But ultimately you need to be aware of how you feel - I'd say that a serious fast is safer among other people who are also fasting so you can compare how you're feeling with other people. I'd feel safe doing one alone now, but the first few times, it's good to have reassurance. |

I have been doing "water only" fasts for over 30 years. My first one was under a doctor's supervision at UC Berkeley in the 60s (I highly recommend this since not all people can water fast). I normally fast twice a year. When there is a "sweet, clean" taste in my mouth I cease my fasting -- it is the sign my body gives that it is through cleansing.
My fasting periods have lasted from three days to 27 days (the longest was after a particularly arduous time -- the death of my Father and all the attendant worries, relocating my Mother, drinking, stress, etc.). During the longer fasts (more than 7-10 days) an enema is highly recommended as there may be food left in the alimentary canal in addition post-fast you need to replace the lost natural enzymes in that canal. I regularly exercise while fasting (walking) and am naturally a little slower, but have no difficulty in performing my classroom duties (no one even knows I am fasting). Coming off the longer fasts, it is also crucial to bring back solid foods into the diet slowly. For example, after a 12-day fast, I will drink watered down juices for a day or two, natural squeezed juices for a day or two, add well easily digestible foods (tofu, white rice) for a day or two, etc., slowly bringing my diet back to my vegan norm. This is the most difficult and important time in a fasting period -- returning to normal. It must be done slowly and carefully.
I don't really care what others may think about the "truth" of fasting or cleansing or any of that. I just know that, as taking a daily shower cleans my outer body, my regular water fasting cleans my insides deeply and thoroughly. It gives my body time to rest and rejuvenate. My body temple enjoys it and so do I. I am remarkably healthy and tend not to be prone to common ailments here in Korea (e.g., common cold, flu, pink eye, yellow dust allergies). Is that because of genes or fasting? It is interesting to note that most religions previously had a true fasting period during the year but now........... |

I'm also not prone to allergies or common cold, except for hayfever which I am not prone to in Korea because well there is no grass. Personally I think drinking only water for 27 days is completely insane. Why did the doctor recommend this? Why do you assume that the inside of your body needs cleaning in this manner? |

Dude, if it's working for other people and they're happy with it then just let it be. If you really want to know if there's any merit to fasting, then just try it for yourself. That's the only kind of knowledge that matters. |
