Choose!
Are you an individual who is free to choose, as you claim to be?
Or are you an automaton acting only on "social" programming? |
If you actually read the rest of my post, you could have saved yourself the trouble of posting that.
I don't have the answer for all ladies. That's for sure. Every person is different. I just tossed out a theory since I don't know all the answers... |

I used to wear more makeup and heels in the states than I do here. When I put on heels and makeup here I magically become perceived as a Russian prostitute. There have been issues with a few drunken Ajoshi's and a bunch of dumb G.I.'s (and a co-worker). I get picked up more when I just wear some lip gloss and maybe some mascara. No short skirts, no heels. And then you know that the guy is into you and not the
image of yourself.
Plus, I still have no idea what half of the makeup products are. What the Fu***ck is Bronzer? Why do I want to make my skin Bronze? |

You're right Arjuna.
Aly's logic is lacking. Blame society? Huh?
Gimme a break. That's just weak.
Symptomatic of a total "slave" mentality.
( p.s. I'm sure Aly is actually quite a sweet & kind little lady, just not not very "logickal" ) |

Ummm...Here you don't want bronzer, which darkens your skin. Here you want whitener, whcih lightens your skin. Pale skin is in here, even for the guys. Have you seen that hot Sunkist commercial with the Super Junior guys? Yummy! |

How am I being illogical?
Our perceptions of what is attractive is from society...it's from the culture we live in. I'm not saying that is THE answer...but it certainly is a part of the big picture.
Once again, if you read my post correctly, you would see that I don't follow the pattern that other women do, so my guess is genuinely a guess not some absolute truth from an oracle. I don't see why my attempt to answer the op's question is such a big deal.

| but... I'm convinced that even when guys say "i want a girl who doesn't spend so much money and effort on her looks" HAD the chance to be with a girl like that (less makeup, all of the less effort), they wouldn't take it. I'd be a pretty good example of that scenario. Guys want their girls to look good, and to keep up with the oversexualization of our culture (what guys see in the media), they have always look better and better. |

Lots of guysin the west say they like women who don't wear lots of makeup, but women know the first time they come to work without any, they'll be asked if they're feeling okay at least 5 times |
You are going to tell me that society has NOTHING to do with this?
Seriously? Please explain how I'm wrong about this.... |

Hi Aly ...
i stand by what i said in that blaming society is symptomatic of a slave mentality.
It's a totally WEAK cop-out.
Blame the media? Sure. The overt sexualization on TV, pop kulture etc is pretty damn harsh.
Still we do have CHOICE, don't we?
Just because they're bomarded by these images in media doesn't mean women have to dress like skanky hos. Blaming men is another cop-out as well. l
If we weakly allow ourselves to be programmed & brainwashed then i guess that's a bit of a problem alright.
This reminds me, has anyone mentioned the fierce COMPETITIVENESS among women?
Hmmmmm ... how much of a "factor" might this be?
Honestly
Time people started taking greater personal responsibility for their dress, attitude, language and the like

For an elegant demonstration about how a woman can use her sexuality to gain simple acknowledgement and cooperation, check out Penn and Teller's "Bullsh*t" episode on Sex, at 8:48.

(some parts of this show are definitely not safe for work.)
