Major Hospitals Overcharge Patients By Kim Tae-jong, Korea Times (May 8, 2007)

It is strongly recommended that patients carefully check their hospital bills as many big hospitals nationwide have allegedly overcharged patients.

The number of complaints was 7,733 in 2005, of which 3,248, or 35 percent, turned out to be cases of hospitals overcharging patients, and resulted in refunded money totaling 1,481 million won. In 2006, the number of petitioners increased to 9,823, and 2,670, or 27 percent, had their money returned, an amount totally 2,124 million won, according to the agency.

Hospitals charge patients for treatments that are not covered by medical insurance and by adding "special treatments" to the bill.

If patients suspect they have been overcharged, the agency advises them to send them the relevant receipt with some brief personal information. For more information, call (02) 705-6114 or visit www.hira.or.kr

Sounds just like the hospitals in the USA. You must watch your bill there, make sure you agree to any services (or they will do random tests to inflate the bill). Many people are winning lawsuits these days for things they didn't need done or for thing they were charged for, but never received.

Why do I have a bill for $50 for 2 feet of surgical tubing?

Huh!

I went to my small town doctor last week and it cost me 2000 Won! I wonder if I can get some of that refunded...
