Soccer 15 - 0 for Korea...
Does Nepal even have players on the field? |

Ouch, they realy shouldn't subject some countries' teams to this kind of thing. I mean, Korea is hardly a soccer superpower, but Nepal? What did they think was going to happen?
It reminds me of a game a while back, an early World Cup qualifier I think, between Australia and one of the Pacific island nations. The island country was short of players, so they literally went to the beach, found some dude, and asked if he wanted to play for the national team in a World Cup qualifier. The Aussies ended up hammering these poor guys 30-something to zero. An Aussie (forget who) still holds the record for most goals in an international game from that, it's in the high teens or something I think, maybe even more. |

think Nepal is the lowest rated team in the FIFA rankings (even taffy's titans could beat them ) so the score doesn't suprise me. Besides this is Olympic qualifying if I recall so this is not even the national team rather its the U23 team. thats why the stands were so empty and it was a 6:30P kickoff |

The game's an Asian Cup qualifier... Korea beat Vietnam 5-0, then Oman 1-0 (surprisingly difficult game), and now 16-0.
The Korean coach has been using only locally-based players as the European ones aren't really needed, plus they're involved in league football. I think Coelho's come in for some stick for not bringing through enough young players in this squad as he should be looking to build a squad for the future (so folk say)
Nepal are ranked 164th in the world, worst ranked are Montserrat at 204th. Scotland have moved up to the dizzying heights of 53rd (good on ya, Berti!)
The ridiculous Aussie score was in a game versus American Samoa - can't remember the guy who scored the most number of goals, but a recent Aberdeen signing (David Zdrillic) hit a barrowload in that game. Funny thing is Harry Kewell and Mark Viduka were rested for that match, god only knows what the score could have been if the Aussies had used their first choice strikeforce instead of their reserves |

I don't think the Koreans will be pouring into the streets for that one.
Although, this is Korea so who knows!!!
Anyway, aren't half of the Australian team descended from the former Yugoslavia. You could start a new team from those players alone!!! |

The American Samoa score was officially credited as 31-0, as most of the folk at the game lost count of the score. Archie Thompson was the guy who scored 13 goals in the game - 7 folk scored hat-tricks in total!
3 days previously they'd beaten Tonga 22-0.
Supposedly both scores were racked up without any of the European-based players and were all taken from the domestic leagues... god only knows what would have happened had the superstars been involved
The World Record score is still held by Scottish side Arbroath who beat Bon Accord 36-0 in 1885 (or thereabouts) |

hardly a major accomplishment by any standards. however the South Korean women just got hammered 7-1 by Norway in the World Cup. I'm sure the Norwegians were wondering the same. |

maybe playing more 'top-notch teams' like Nepal will raise SK from it's FIFA rank of 39? |

I heard that a group of the Nepalese players went missing after a game a few days ago. There was an article in the paper about it.
Were these players missing from the team I wonder? If so it certainly wouldn't have helped their chances.... |
