whenever a religious person talks to me about being religious I say to them
"I really envy you. I wish I could think like you do but there is obviously something wrong with my brain that makes it impossible. perhaps someday they will find a cure for what is wrong with my brain and if they do I will be first in line to get it. I suspect it will involve lobotomy" |

While talking about religion to other people may not be cool. Insulting their beliefs and faith is just as bad. I am a Catholic. Not a very good one sometimes because I have a penchant for tolerance. But I believe strongly in God and Christ.
I also believe since I am flawed I cannot judge another person's life style. I can comment on it. Talk about it and even disagree with the life style but God is the only one who can judge that persons heart.
Gay people are just people. God made them and made them that way. That is my personal belief. It gets me in to heated battles frequently with other religious people.
Faith is personal and should be kept that way but why must you insult them. Can't you just say I don't share the same beliefs as you so lets not talk about this or walk away? Even if you don't believe I think good manners would tell you to just be polite.
I don't feel lobotmized. I see the world in all its flaws. Including my own but I don't make fun of people for their beliefs. I find it ironic that you would be so cruel to someone about their beliefs when you seem to think every one should be entitled to their own opinion...I guess as long as it is YOUR opinion.

I think its ok to make fun of peoples beliefs. In fact it is my right. They can of course make fun of mine as well. Nothing should be off limits to ridicule. everyone is entitled to their opinion and if I think that opinion is funny I will make fun of it. |

Nope, sorry...wrong.
Just because it is a mass belief and you shroud it behind a thin veneer of 'tolerance' doesn't make it equally less stupid and deserving of mockery.
The fact that you believe a 2,000 text is somehow relevant to your life today is ridiculous. The fact that you think some archair culturally based rules from the Middle Ages is relevant to your life today is ridiculous. The fact that you believe in a mythical creature that shapes the world, talks to you, and guides your life is laughable. Being half a Catholic doesn't make you half as gullible.
The only thing that separates organized religion and the belief that say, Grim's Fairy Tales or the Tooth Fairy is real is numbers. That's it. No evidence or reasoning- just numbers.
There is no reason to respect "faith." All religion is very very stupid and those that follow it are completely separated from reality, wether they want to admit it or not. |

And just in case anyone forgot...
There is no god
However, if you want to continue to believe in your invisible friend then by all means do so. I will continue to laugh and shake my head. |

lol. you get so riled up.
I never made a stance of "right" only her being "wrong".
There's really nothing to argue. Religion does not suffer from lack of evidence. It suffers from NO evidence. You cannot argue faith. But you can sure mock it, as it is equally as stupid and valid as believing in elves. |

Im riled up? Im not even all that religious. Not practicing anyway. I have no investment in either side though, and Im not closing the door on religion either. What I hate are arrogant people so sure that they are right and others are wrong.

It is this kind of "thinking" that is eroding civility in modern society. At one time, people knew how to keep their traps shut, and in fact, many civilized people still do. Unfortunately, increasingly more people think they should feel free to walk around and spout off on any number of subjects. Nobody cares. Keep your opinions to yourself. Have some dignity, and stop believing that what you say is original or interesting. |

I'm open to the idea of a God, if some proof ever comes along. However your argument is terrible, and I don't mean that as an insult. Whether Einstein believed in anything does not give it legitimacy. Einsteins theories were meticulously(sp) created and thoroughly checked by his peers. his religious beliefs were not because they are just beliefs. An intelligent persons irrational unprovable beliefs are just as valid as the next guy. I'm sure there are alot of smart guys that are athiest, that doesn't mean it is right to be an athiest. |

Well your taking quite a leap there. When did I say to walk around and spout of any topic. I said I should be able to make fun of a person's belief if I like. What is wrong with that? Im not going to insult somebody or ridicule their appearance but your beliefs are fair game. I find what most people say to be interesting, mainly because I enjoy a bit of banter. |
