You guys are off he mark. This isnt about fame. This is about influence. Rain might very well be famous beyond Korea (China, Japan, SE Asia?) but what influence does he have on popular music? I would say very little. The guy doesnt have an original bone in his body. His dancing is stolen from Michael Jackson, his songs are cookie cutter pop, he doesnt even write his own music or lyrics. basically he is a dancing monkey who spits out other people's words.

You forgot his hardon for Usher.

Rolling Eyes How can a "rapper" sing about being a "gangsta" in a country without guns, ghettos, or pimps and ho's. Ohh, wait, half of the women in Korea are ho's. Rolling Eyes

His "street cred" must be pretty maxed out if this is any indication...

This will draw the world's attention to Korea's pop music scene. Rolling Eyes
Koreans better be ready to start apologizing.

Rain is huge in Asia. Some westerners have heard of him. I think BOA would be more influential than RAIN.

Umm, since when Rain has been a "gangsta rapper"? May 8th, 2007? Doesn't he rather sing? Maybe you just wanted to do some eye rolling but when you have native Korean speakers on this board, it just doesn't work. Wink

[color=darkblue]One thing I'm curious about, though, is why everyone seems to think that if Americans and Brits (but especially Americans) aren't familiar with a celeb, then they must not have reached a respectable level of fame. The average American's entertainment knowledge is essentially limited to tidbits of what is published all over magazine covers and aired on Entertainment Tonight. It's not like the US is overflowing with art connoisseurs. Why then are they the measuring stick?

I'd usually agree with you, Qinella, but who cares what we Westerners think?

...Well, apparently Koreans do or he wouldn't have registered a blip there. Not that I'm saying our opinions matter worldwide, but...

'Entertainment Tonight'? ...right...'everybody' watched that. Overflowing with art connoisseurs, we are. Ever go to a famous gallery in the States or check the sales of the world's major auctioneers?

My ex gf works for a PR company in Toronto and she's been working on a Rain concert in Toronto. For the last couple weeks her MSN message was about how the bi boy was coming. Today this popped up.

He's going to disappoint a lot of 14 year old Asian girls in Canada! That rat bastard! He's getting too big for his 26" waist britches!

I hope Colbert makes fun of him and the fact that nobody in the US knows who he is.
i kinda want that too. It would be interesting to see Rain mentioned in the colbert report
