I am hoping to come to south korea in Aug, i thought it would be a lot harder than it was so a few weeks ago i contacted nearly every recruitment agency in south korea. They are all now constantly phoning me and giving me completely different advice. Ideally i would like to live in Busan (is this a good idea?) starting in Aug. Some agencies tell me they have positions others say this is not possible as busan only recruits in MARCH. Im really worried about going with a dodgy company, as iv read some horror stories on here!!
If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

If they tell you Busan only recruits in March, it means that particular recruiter has no jobs in Busan at the moment, and that they are a dodgey outfit. Tell them they're liars and dump 'em.

paula- you'll get better advice from some on this site than you'll ever get from most recruiters. Wink

You are right to be concerned about choosing a reliable employer. Don't do anything or accept any position from someone unless you trust them 100%.

thanks

i dont really know where to start now. its only 1030 am and i have had 5 different agencies phone me. I think i have got in over my head now. I keep hearing all the horror stories and its really putting me off. Are there any reputable companys anyone would recommend?

Also does anyone happen to be scottish? agencies are really struggling with my accent, im trying hard to tone it down, was just wondering if this is a common problem. one agency wanted me to try a north american accent on the phone to him. Needless to say i dont think it went down well. ha

Why do companies require full body photo's i dont understand. They know what i look like from my face shot?

If you are looking for a hakwon you should be looking about 45-60 days prior to when you want to get here (it takes 10-21 days AFTER you sign on the dotted line to process the visa).

If you specifically want a PUBLIC school position, most of the GOVERNMENT programs will do the bulk of their hiring in June and July for the fall term starting Aug. 24. (70% fall starts, 30% spring starts - due to graduation dates at western unis).

Ignore ANY recruiter that does NOT offer you specifically what you are asking for. There are 10,000 more jobs than there are applicants on any given year.

DON'T BE IN A RUSH to sign anything. Take your time. Do your "due dilligence" and check it all out BEFORE you sign on the dotted line. The job will still be there tomorrow and probably next week and the week after that as well.

Full body photos??? WTF? Wow, that's news to me! They not only want to make sure you have a satisfactory face, they also want people to have a satisfactory body frame too?

He is a liar - change agencies.

There are about 7 jobs for every applicant and 20 jobs seeking a female for every female applicant.

See my post above.

Oh, and you only need to submit a face photo - if you want to submit an extra photo, take one with you outside playing with a few of them. You'll land a job (not necessarily a good place however) within hours of your application.

The full body shots are to see if you have any physical problems and how attractive you appear. Attractiveness matters in Korea.
Bear in mind, just about anything is legal in Korea when it comes to hiring.

Not that you need any help, but here's something that'll improve your negotiation power... Just photoshop your face on to it. Laughing

I don't have the Busan Office of Education website handy.

The other big 3 (government programs) are:

EPIK (most of Korea) : http://epik.knue.ac.kr/
GEPIK (Gyeonggi province) : http://gepik.ken.go.kr/r/bbs/board.php?bbs_code=f_notice
SMOE/ETIS (Seoul city) : http://etis.sen.go.kr/
