I just found out that I'll be getting another new co-teacher at my (GEPIK) elementary school. The new teacher will be my third teaching partner and I'm only coming up on six months into my contract. I assumed I wouldn't have only one co-teacher for the entire year, especially considering that I started in the middle of the fall semester, but three co-teachers in six months? Is this normal?

For those of you who teach in a public elementary school, how many co-teachers have you had?

What happened to other co-teachers. Did you get them fired or make them commit suicide? Laughing

I've always had the same. Did your school give a explanation? Would be interesting to hear!

Its also the school. There are really good public schools that have a waiting list for teachers. The school I'm at has a very very long wait list for new teachers. Probably explains why 80% of the teachers here are over the age of 50. Seniority counts. Anyways, a lot of teachers in my area want to work at my school because the Principal and the Vice Principal have a reputation of being super nice guys.

It could be that your co teachers found a better school or better position to teach.

My question is, do English Co-Teachers get paid less than their Homeroom teacher counterparts?

hello,

i know what you are going through. i had 3 co teachers my first year in GEPIK too. the first one left because her five year term had ended, it was time to change schools. her replacement was pregnant, so we got a temporary teacher. then, after the replacement's maternity leave was finished, she finally came to teach. she turned out to be the best co-teacher and nicest korean i have ever met. sound familiar, chamchiman?

Very Happy Very Happy

what he is saying is, this particular school only uses 1 main co-teacher and they keep changing them.

Homeroom teachers get more overtime, as they have also have supervision time for their class.
(My co-teacher told me in a general chat last week, they can be quite well paid, although they don't get housing!)

Yeah, the difference is only 100,000/month.

It's not that interesting. Sorry.

My previous partner finished out her stint in March. My current partner was on temporary assignment to work from March-July. From what I can understand, another school needs some kind of an emergency replacement, so my current partner is transferring. That means I have another temporary co-teacher coming to replace my current co-teacher. This new teacher will work until July and then I will presumably have a FOURTH co-teacher from September until the end of my contract.

Four co-teachers in one year is more than I expected. Is this scenario at all similar to anyone else's experience in a public elementary school?
