idiot proof website building?
I have no computer programming knowledge nor do i want any. However, i would like to "design" a website that looks professional and has some interactive features like forms, polls, news, shout outs etc. I'm more than happy to buy a relatively cheap/simple template site and add modules that i need. But, it needs to be idiot proof. Is there such a language or website manager program that i can use? |

You probably have Microsoft Frontpage on your computer if you have MS-office installed.
Fill in the blanks and the wizard does the rest for you, then simply upload it to the server (it will usually do this for you too if you read the help files). |

depending on the scope of what you want to do, you could pay me to do it. I'm not cheap, but after it's done it'll be idiot proof.

Take it from a professional: there is a high probability your website will suck. Especially with all those interactive bits. Just live with it.
Having said that, try FrontPage 2003, just make sure your server supports FrontPage extensions. Maybe DreamWeaver, but I'm not sure it can create the interactive parts, you should check first.

It is a bit clunky and the "Pros" don't like it at all, but you Word program has the ability of creating websites. Simply click on New from your file menu and then on the right side of the screen look for Templates from your computer...I have been doing quite a bit of website design using Word for the past 20 years. AGAIN, the high tech guys who do this kind of work are fit to be tied when they see a Word generated website, because it is very bulky, making it hard for them to wade through the html code it generates. There are wizards for Word just as there are for Frontpage and other Microsoft Programs...
BUT in the end it can produce a website that is simple and easy to use...Frontpage 2003 is a good product, but it requires a greater knowledge of html than you appear to have...Just a suggestion...If you want to see a site that was created using Word go to the following link:

Word will not accomplish what he wants. He wants interactivity and dynamic content. This means using php or asp pages and most likely a database which word cannot do. |

Hosting costs depend on storage and bandwidth.
Charges run from free on banner hosted low bandwidth use sites like http://www.geocities.com
to
tens of thousands of dollars per month for extremely high bandwidth sites with dedicated servers and T1 /T3 lines kept in secure data centers like http://www.starwoodhotels.com . |

I'm paying us$100/year and get insand amounts of storage and bandwidth. The current deal is 110 gb of storage and 5tb of bandwidth, but My plan doesn't meet that as I signed up a couple of years ago and have different stats. |

Check out VPS hosting...
They are a company right here in Korea that offers some good packages for web hosting...You must have your domain name first if you want to begin building a web presence with them...You will receive your own virtual webserve with more space than you will need for most website applications

unless you know how to use shell and secure your server remotely this is not a good option. It's really designed for advanced users. VPS and dedicated servers are standard in this level of support.

You could also consider an internet registrar (the people who give you the domain name) as your host. They have rates from about $4 per month with some tech support and pop3 mail hosting as well:

Superhero what webhosting company do you use?
I'm going to WORDPRESS to create my site. I'm presently shopping around for a host.

That code is awful but I've seen worse. Was the whole thing done in Word, even the graphics?
If so, I'm mildly impressed. |
