Checking in to let other teachers know of new resources I've collected or developed. Lots to relate and I'll be forgetting lots also. But such is life, as Ezra Pound lamented, "the lyfe too shrt, the crft so long to lern."

1... Extra English series is being used. Click that button. The full workbook is up there , as well as transcripts and complete dvds for download. Great series for teenagers, perfect for summer camp. (with an air conditioner blowing)

2. Leveled Readers. Many people looking for this and I have found it, developed it. At http://www.esnips.com//web/VideoBooks/ 7 levels with each book having worksheets/activity sheets. I'll be making more in the near future, lots of non fiction here which I like. Voice and everything .

3. www.transl8it.com My Korean teachers who I teach have used it with screaming success. Powerpoint on my presentation site. Load and the students translate the text messaging code into English. Great fun and they have until the end of the song to finish.....

http://www.esnips.com/doc/2f433f42-331b-4d23-9266-3df379e8ae73/transl8it

4. Lots of Korean music videos. Click the button on my site. Many sung in English but all with subtitles. Catch up on Korean pop....

5. More karaokes and also a collection of karaokes on Youtube. Download the list and try them out....cool. Also I have downloaded worksheets and lesson plans for many of the songs on my site. Will also make karaokes soon for those not yet having a music file for the lesson plan.

6. Side by Side powerpoints. Really neat and check out the other ones too, on a fellow teachers site. Really interactive and you can teach a whole conversational course based on them...

7. Lots more, forgetting much I know. So be it.....when you have time to browse, pick up your coffee and take a look. What you use, you use...what doesn't work, doesn't ...... Oh yeah, new powerpoint games and FLING THE TEACHER, a new flash game. Example game there but use the generator to make your own, "Millionaire " style game where the goal is to fling the teacher.....

Cool. Thanks.

Incidentally, anyone know why there isn't a resource sticky?

Be nice to have somewhere to post/browse EFL teacher resources, radio shows, newspaper articles etc

I have also started a place where you can access Karaoke videos. Not many made by myself yet but they will be coming shortly. Watch the videos and follow the subtitled script. Lots of these can be used with the worksheets/lesson plans on my karaoke site. I prefer karaoke for language instruction because the focus is on language but videos are cool at times too as a teaching tool.

To download any video material on my site, you will have to give esnips an email address and user sign in. That's all and then you can download the video materials...

Many of those resources look really interesting, but for those of us who don't have our own classroom it's just too risky. My school has 23 classrooms and 2 multimedia rooms and I have no idea what the students, homeroom teachers, or computer teachers have downloaded or deleted from the class computers. I've even gone to a classroom at 9AM to make sure the computer was working and returned at noon to find that it would no longer work for what I wanted to do.

Would it be possible to download some of these vids onto a naver site like this - http://blog.naver.com/ktwjang?Redirect=Log&logNo=80036536542&vid=0 - ? That seems to be the most reliable way to give the best odds that it will work in the classroom. It would probably also make it a lot easier for KTs to use and students to access.

Hiya YBS:

I have the same problem of having to present my lesson in multiple classrooms. I think the IT staff do as good of a job as can be expected to maintain the computers but the computers are old and get a lot of abuse from the students.

It is common for either the video or the sound not to work. So I plan how I will present the lesson without one or the other. I also have a backup lesson that is not dependent on the equipment at all.

Also as a backup to my CD or Flash Drive, I load the recourses I need for a lesson in places like YouTube (Videos and music) and image cave.com (photos). I then use a web page from mysite.com (free web page host) example: http://passport220.mysite.com/ everything can be organized on the one page in the order you need it. I save the web page as a favorite on all of the computer or if I need to it is not a big deal to just type it in.

I have created separate web pages to share links with the students when so desired.

First of all, yeah I understand the "technical" shortfalls many teachers are under. But not all my site is just multi media, though a lot is. Also, the best person to make good friends with at your school in my mind, is the computer technician.

The videos can be downloaded onto your memory stick. Better to do so at home where your bandwidth is probably greater and not a network. Then bring to school, plug into your computer, whatever classroom. All computers should be able to do this. Play in the same player you do at home, preferably something like VLC which plays almost any video without a problem. Naver won't be any better than any other site, sorry to say.....

But if you are using the computer/screen. Make sure that each computer is equiped and up to date. Can't mention this enough and this should not come as an after thought but something done before classes start for the year.

I have some new karaoke videos and have many more in progress. If anyone has anything special they want me to add text to, produce. Just let me know and I will do it. Becoming quicker for me to use the software I do, to produce text with video....(I use several combinations of things, depending on the file type...).

Again, with powerpoint, make sure you have 2003 or better to play without a glitch most of the up to date powerpoints. But of course the rule is always run it before class, so you know what's up, what works etc....

The Fling the teacher games work with any flash player on your computer....

forgot to mention,

here is an example of what a teacher can do with a music video/file. You can insert text. Did this of my fav. video last night. First time you do it will take hours , then it gets easier. For example this one took about 30 min. unfortunately esnips converts to .flv (flash). I prefer avi files much better.

But the main point I didn't mention in my first post is that internet resources shouldn't just be seen as something a teacher uses. If we see students so seldom, we should be promoting their own self-study. A teacher's internet site can point them to a place where they can study on their own, of their own. This is the best a teacher can do for their students, slowly lead them into self sufficiency and facilitate along the way.... So refer students to the materials. Yeah, most won't use them, that's freedom but the ones that do, you've immensely helped.

More resources added lately. In particular teachers might be interested in;

21 modern wonders of the world. Students vote on their top 7. Full presentation I made with Where the Hell is matt videos as a warm up and extension. Also with fact sheets about each wonder of the world.

http://www.esnips.com/doc/17a1aafc-1b42-4bbb-94f6-28f108e766d7/Modern-Wonders-of-the-World

I've updated the Karoake videos folder. Many I've made recently, in particular see Lemon Tree, I will survive, Take on Me but also many more with full screen script for class.

Lots more books in my Book Nook. In particular, the Little Prince and also lots of cool poetry for older learners. You will also find lots of news articles with discussion questions. For more reading, see this full set of TRUE STORIES powerpoints with quizzes after each reading.

http://www.esnips.com/web/TrueStories

Also added many Side by Side powerpoints in the Teaching folder. Great for teaching a whole course.

Karaokes have been added (make sure to download the player first at www.karafun.com). I'll be reorganizing this Large folder shortly. There is a whole set of worksheets now, for many of the songs. Play and use the worksheets but also use your own creative ideas.

If your one like us all who suffers from IT meltdown, frustration -- take a look at this funny video I've been sharing with friends. Hilarious.

I like a lot of the materials, but man...some of the pictures you use in your powerpoint games are....

A scuba diver clutching her breasts, synchronized swimmers forming a ring with their heads up each others' rear ends, a virtually naked pregnant woman eating a plate full of seriously phallic-looking carrots, many girls in bikinis...

...odd choices indeed.

Hey ddeubel,

Today I used the 'Fling the teacher' game you posted . It was a HUGE hit with my Primary 3 kids (8 year olds).

Thanks again!

Ummm....yeah. I commend you on your hard work and all but why would you use some of the photos you did? I changed them easily enough to less suggestive or outright sexual ones, but a warning to others who think they will use some of these in a class "as is"...check them all over first. I'm certainly glad I did.

o my god! I didn't think you were serious!

Anyway, each to his own. That presentation (on description) was meant to use exaggerated photos, to get student response and interest on the topic of "human variation". So, to each his own..... I'll avoid a discussion in phenomenology. Smile

Very welcome and good to know. That is a super program to generate your own games and the Brit who made it should be given a medal. Smart dude, teaches history and his students are so lucky.

Great game for being a quick version of Golden Bell. Also great way to make TOEFL practice/review, fun. It is all based around the 4 multiple choice answers.

***** I've had quite a few people asking me about how to download video. Note that you must sign in to esnips to download video (a legal issue). So you have to register with only an email address and password and use this. Not much and takes 1 min. Then the download button for video material will appear.

I'd recommend taking a look at a few of the videos recently uploaded. I worked hard on this one....

Barenake ladies videos and Lemon tree is also super cool

I fail to see how a photo of a ring of synchronized swimmers with each having their head up the butt of the lady in front of them is a question of phenomenology, or human variation. Its a sick picture, one that could be found on some of the more banal sites on the net; a kind of toilet humor.

DD, really, I am not trying to rile you up, but honestly and respectfully, some of the photos are somewhat jarring for my university students and outright wrong for an elementary student to see.

Again, you are an asset to this community, as I have said before publicly and in PMs. I simply feel that others should have a heads up (punny, huh?) on your version of phenomenology and how that extends to some of the content of your games.
