Last week one of the big bosses comes in and asks me if I wanted to go to Cebu. I had never even heard of cebu before coming to korea, turns out he owns a school in the philippines, some teacher got fired, offered to pay my ticket, and fill in until this new teacher comes. I will be here a few weeks, but I kiind of like it! The beer is great, pay the same, hours about the same, and the students are all Uni level, off at 6pm, there are two malls here, the food kind of sucks, but there are fast food places everywhere. Anyone ever done this before?? |

Your pay will be the same as in Korea? I would be there like flies on shit.
As for Cebu, downtown is scary at night. Really aggressive touts. Nice local beaches. Some good expat hangouts. They have lots of Jollibees down there, which are like Lotterias up here.

Very lucky gig, to say the least. Expect to save a ton. |

Never been to Cebu before but I have been to the PI a number ot times. The PI is a unique country and about as crooked as they come. Don't let anyone clean/shine your shoes. They'll cut them and send you to a shoe repair friend. Don't buy weapons on the street...any knife etc. it's illegal for foreigners to own weapons and the police will confiscate them, give them back to the salesman to sell again. Of course getting their cut. Stay out of trikes or jeepneys alone. Try to travel with someone. Always wear a raincoat Don't believe ANYTHING a bargirl tells you. Beware of women with adams apples. Don't drink the water. Filipino Men. Filipino Karaoke.
On the otherhand beautiful beaches. Cheap, cheap, cheap. Great weather friendly people. (remember you are a cash register to them) Tanduay Rum (aged I think $1.50 a liter) Mango Juice. Dried Mangos. Filipino Women. |

Personally I would never go to the Phillippines again myself. The country seems to be founded on one principle: screw the foreign tourist over as badly as possible. |

Sunflower was so-so, way too Korean-style club for me. But yeah, toddswift, consider yourself a lucky man. |

Cebu is a great city and the Philippines a really friendly place. The women rock too. Jobs are hard to come by there so count yourself lucky. Cebu is very tourist oriented though and noticeably more expensive than just about anywhere else in that country aside from Manilla or Luzon. |

Yes, I spent a month there teaching last year. I was bored with Cebu in about all of two days. I have no idea what Koreans see in the place other than cheap English Lessons from desperate Filipinas. If you are getting the pay you would normally get in Korea plus decent housing in the Philippines, Id say you are fortunate. You would be the envy of every other teacher where you work. Keep your pay a secret to yourself, otherwise they will try to make your life a living hell. Say, how do you like being checked by police and metal detectors when you go into the big mall? Okay, so you like the San Miguel beer right? Ive tasted much better. |

I beg to differ. So what if you are searched for weapons? As long as you have none, that's fine. I am kicking myself for not spending more time in Cebu (I spent most of my Philippine vacation on Boracay). I guess VISITING and LIVING there are two different things but oh well, I did like what I saw, especially the genuine smiles and KARAOKE bars. |

And don't forget to watch the ladies slide down the pole onstage at the Fire House. |
Oh yeah, bikini bars. I went to a few but I was really afraid of that I'd see a girly boy, so I went home early. |
