Maybe, who knows? All I remember from the few times I talked with her was that her recruiter told her very little about the hogwan or teaching, but made sure he told her all about Korean prostitutes and plenty of drinking stories. Rolling Eyes

I know all about that crap. Back in late December, a certain young lady (FT)moved in a few doors down, and was left alone for almost two weeks while no one at her hogwan told her anything or stopped by to check on her. I showed her how to exchange Canadian money for won, where to shop and how to order bibimbop.
Since her "lovely" hogwan pimp picked her up Rolling Eyes in January, she now avoids me like the plague. If she starts to complain about benefits or not getting paid, should I come to her rescue again? Rolling Eyes

I know what you mean about helping newbies and then being left in the dust. Makes me want to not help em anymore, although I probably will.

I got kicked in the teeth a few times trying to help people out but I try not to be too invested in it, I try giving people a few tips and some advice without too much handholding, the way I figure it is, if they ask questions I'll answer anything I can and if they are making some kind of honest attempt to help themselves then I'll bust my ss helping them out. But if they're looking for their hands to be held, they can look elsewhere.

Then again, sometimes I feel like we're in Nam or prison, I can smell a fish and sometimes you know they're just not gonna last, helping them almost feels like prolonging their agony.

I remember a while back reading about someone's contract here that stipulated that "native speakers of X Language Institute are forbidden to cavort with foreigners of other hagwons, as there is a risk of trade secrets being divulged."

WHAT trade secrets? The name of the text book they plariariged (EDIT damn my monkey paws... plagiarized) and photocopied for their students? Rolling Eyes

NOVA has a similar clause in their contracts where you are forbidden from socializing with your students, nor can you exchange phone numbers or email addresses (all for fear that you will teach them privately). Japanese courts have repeatedly said it is unconstitutional, and teachers fired over this clause were compensated.
