OK... after a years living in Korea (outside of Seoul), I'm finally moving to Kangnam in Seoul. I have a question for all you Seoul-lites, does anybody know of a good place in Seoul where one can pick up western cooking spices (i mean besides the standard fair one finds in the large dept stores. |

Hannam market and Haddon house have an excellent supply or western spices. Both are near Iteawon.
Hannam market is next to the Volvo building in an underground store and Haddon house is near the UN village. |

Hannam market is OK. For spices though I usually head over to 'Jaspers' across from 3 alley pun in Itaewon, there is another pretty good place just opened up near the intersection by 'Helios' bar, it's up towards the top of hooker hill on the road that leads up to 'Starbutts' on the right hand side, this new ones called 'foreign food store' or something like that.
Good luck |

Definitely hit the legal import shops that KeithinKorea mentioned, some of their spices are actually cheaper than at home. |

What else would you need?? Clearly you've been in Korea too long, or your taste buds were never refined to begin with. Cumin (seeds, not powdered), cilantro, oregano, prik nam plaa (try finding that here). |

You can get those things anywhere in Korea (well south Korea anyway).
How about?
Coriander
Cumin
Mustard seeds
Turmeric
Mint
Good quality chili powder (korean stuff is cra)0
Garam masala
Saffron
Kangnam sucks for decent food shopping and most if the stuff is really overpriced, to work in Kangnam I'd want the Korean equivalent of London weighting in my pay and I dont thing you guys get it do you?
I could go on but I wont. |

Oh for pity's sake, I don't recall asking what your opinion of Kangnam was, nor do I recall asking what it would take to get you to work in Kangnam.

What I did ask was where one could buy some spice. While you list some off in your previous post, in your latter you are just spewing off about your opinions of Kangnam. As a consequent of your amazing insights into life in Kanganam I have now attained peace of mind and eternal contentment.
If you don't happen to like it in Kangnam, then don't come and visit, you won't be missed!
Manifesto and others, thanks for the advice. I'll check out some of those places on the weekend. |

For Indian style spices there is a store near Kings club in Itaewon that carries cumin, tumeric, masala, chili powder etc really cheap.
Asian food store I believe. |

I already told you two places that you can get loads of different types of herbs and spices you muppet! I was replying to the poster who basically said 'what would you want beyond a bit of garlic...etc.'
Yes Grotto's right a good one is the 'the asian store' another is 'jaspers' those places -along with Hannam market- should have all you need. Dont bother with Kangnam with food shopping was my message, get yourself over to Itaewon, Hannam or the Namdaemun import market for your import food needs.
No problems anal-tory. I'm glad I enabled you to find enlightenment but to achieve it you might need to pull your head out of your arsehole. |

Absolutely! I used to buy my spices there when I lived in the US and was visiting in Korea. |
