There is an immigration office at the airport. I'm not sure how full service they are.

Ah, not the airport! I am going to Hong Kong soon, but have lost my ARC. I know that it takes like a week to get a new one, and need to get the thing really soon I guess. Not sure what will happen if I leave and/or return without one, but best to be safe I say. Thanks anyway to you guys for replying.

A replacement ARC takes 30 minutes at your local immigration office.

Go in,
Take a number,
get a 10,000 won stamp from the lady downstairs,
fill in an application
wait your turn
hand in your application, show your passport,
wait 15 minutes and pick up your new ARC
Go HOME.

If you need a re-entry stamp, get it at the same time. Add 30k won for a single re-entry and 50k for a multi.

Are you sure about this? I lost my ARC back in 2004, got a new one in about 10 minutes.

However, when I went to pick up my last ARC for my current gig, I met an American guy that was going to pick his up, too, as he had lost his original one. They told him to go back a week later - that is why I thought that I too would have to wait a week.

Unless there was some really exceptional circumstances (like no other ID), yes, I am sure.

When I went to China last year I lost my ARC at the airport. When I went through Immi, I told them that I just lost my ARC.
He did some checking and the computer and let me go after a few minutes.
When I came back I had less problems at Immi.
