| Is there such a thing as a Korean mafia and is it similar or different to the Yakuza in Japan? |

| Once met a korean gangster who'd had his eye cut out. Pretty cool. Probably wouldn't mess with them. |

| Yes, there's an underworld that can't be seen that easily. But don't worry, it's ultralight version of organized crime gangs at home or yakuza as portrayed in the movies. |

Plenty hang around Myong-dong (the so-called "Myong-dong Gang-pae"). I saw a few in Tondgaemun as well on a swelteringly HOT August afternoon... yet they were all decked out head-to-toe in black suits. Lots of empty chairs around where they were sitting eating their ice cream (in front of Doota) under the shade umbrellas.
The Yakuza I saw in Niigata were a helluva a lot scarier-looking. Korean gang-pae look like play actors. |

There are a bunch of mean feckers in Uijeongbu, and they often come into the bar I drink at. They have just opened a transgender bar there. I have had drinks with some of the nicer ones, but they are mostly dickheads. Some nce tattoos though |
