Is there such a thing as a Korean mafia and is it similar or different to the Yakuza in Japan?

Han-Hwa Group is a Korean mafia organization.

Han-Hwa and Yakuza same same.

Once met a korean gangster who'd had his eye cut out. Pretty cool. Probably wouldn't mess with them.

Yes, there's an underworld that can't be seen that easily. But don't worry, it's ultralight version of organized crime gangs at home or yakuza as portrayed in the movies.

Plenty hang around Myong-dong (the so-called "Myong-dong Gang-pae"). I saw a few in Tondgaemun as well on a swelteringly HOT August afternoon... yet they were all decked out head-to-toe in black suits. Lots of empty chairs around where they were sitting eating their ice cream (in front of Doota) under the shade umbrellas.

The Yakuza I saw in Niigata were a helluva a lot scarier-looking. Korean gang-pae look like play actors.

There are a bunch of mean feckers in Uijeongbu, and they often come into the bar I drink at. They have just opened a transgender bar there. I have had drinks with some of the nicer ones, but they are mostly dickheads. Some nce tattoos though Smile
