Me, I've gained about 5-10 pounds. I stopped gaining weight when I started eating more Korean food. My first year here, I ate alot of those bakery items and candies and other quick, sweet, easy things... mainly because I didnt like Korean food at first... Now I've acquired the taste so I dont eat as badly.

I've gained weight.
I haven't gained an ounce in about the last 13 years. Here, I've gained about 3 or 4 ounces. I've been going to the gym a lot, so it's all muscle.
watch out ladies.

Something I've noticed is that those who come here overweight tend to lose weight, whereas those who arrive underweight, or even slim to average, tend to gain weight. I'm not trying to make generalizations, it's just something interesting I've noticed among my foreign friends here.

I don't know what a pound is, but I lost weight when I first came, gained about 10kg over several years and then lost 12.5 kg last year.

No option for both. I cannot eat alot of carbs and the diet here consists of so many carbs and very sugar free options. I am not a fad dieter it is just that alot of white rice or even grainy rice packs on pounds. I can't eat alot of bread.

Vegatable options are limited and expensive. I don't live in Seoul so going to Costco is time consuming and expensive. So I order some food from home and eat a lot of fruit and veggies. I suck it up and now go buy salmon that is not frozen for the week. Frozen salmon is frequently high in Sodium and msg which I have bad reaction too.

When I first got here lost a little but more to do with the fact that I had to walk alot. Gained some weight when I changed jobs and was pretty close to my school and ate school lunches which are frequently a carb fest. The soups are pretty good but sometimes high in salt.

Now I just eat what is good for me and back on the right track. Go to the gym everyday if I can or take at least an hour long walk.

While some people tolerate the food here well. If I stay away from rice, sugar, and bread I do okay but that is easier said than done here.

For the Yanks and Imperial people that 103.4 pounds.

Yeah, if anything, this is the problem or 'challenge' I face insofar as keeping from getting too fat. I eat lunch at my school and all the students and teachers look at me like I'm crazy for not eating ALL my rice. All the affordable grocery store food is rice-based or potato or bread... But buying a small container of tomatoes for 5000won, while being the best option for my health, isnt the best option for my wallet.

Eating Korea food, if you can stand it, does seem to help; well at least for me. If I get hungry, I order out for a kimchi jigae or sun du bu... for some reason, the spicy food makes me lose my appetite.

As far as avoiding carbs, if im in the 'disciplined mode' about losing weight and keeping it off, I try to eat egg whites, tuna fish, and mozzerella cheese to get the protien.... then I just spend a little extra money and buy some fruits or vegetables.

Its definitely true that some people are carb-sensitive.. and for some people, eating carbs starts this perpetuating cycle of desiring more and more until you start to get certainly fat...

When I first got here, I lost several pounds, and then gained it all back plus a few more after I began to really love Korean food. Now that it's warm out and I've been riding my bike everywhere, I've lost the extra pounds I had managed to gain. So I broke even so far. I hope to lose a few more before I go home though.

I lost a good 20 pounds when I first moved to Korea. I credit it to: 1-walking all over Seoul, and 2-not having an oven.

I gained it back when I moved to Gwangju where I'm nowhere near the subway, I have an oven, and I've bought a car.

I have lost weight because I don't eat as much.

Korean food is boring in my opinion. I have a Shellfish allergy so that limits some of my choices but I am not really a sea food fan anyways so that means I get very bored of the food and don't eat as much..

Good for me I suppose.

Lose, gain, lose, gain, lose, gain, lose, etc...

Currently, I'm on the "lose" trend.

And I'm not just talking about my dating successes! Wakka wakka!

i've been steadily losing about 1kg a month since i got here, but that's continuing a weight loss trend that i started before i got here. i had lost about 15kg in the 8 months before i came here. it's nice to keep it up.
