| Im going to the philippines in late july and am having trouble deciding on an island. im going solo but just want to unwind on a lonely beach, enjoy some san miguel, eat lots of fruit, swim/tan, and read my book. ill be there for 8 days so id also like to do some diving and hike around a bit. definitely want to avoid tourists. so im looking at primarily at palawan, siquijor, bohol, boracay, or carnigan. however, one very important deciding factor is weather. itll be rainy season and i expect plenty of it but id like to know if one of these places is a bit milder that time of year than the rest. glad to hear any advice anyone can offer. thanks. |

Bohol, Camiguin and Siquijor are pretty much adjacent islands.
Rain won't significantly affect the diving on any of them. All of them are below the usual typhoon belt and don't often get the really bad weather that often hits Luzon and the more northern parts of the country.
Bohol has the advantage of the city of Tagbilaran close by and easy access to the airport at Cebu. The others will take some time to get to or only have limited air access (3 flights per week to Camiguin and none to Siquijor).
You can arrange day or overnight trips to Siquijor from Alona beach (Bohol) as well as trips to any of the other surrounding islands. It is not tourist season as such so you will pretty much have the run of the beach at Alona. You can get a nice room at Alona tropical for about 25k won per night (breakfast included) and the dive shop there is good too.
Just my humble opinion for what it's worth. |

Less to do, fewer options for eating, more isolated (you are a captive audience and it has pricing to match).
Having said that, it is very beautiful but not what I would choose for an 8 day get away. If you had a couple months to sit on the beach in a nipa hut, drop into the water at a whim and watch coconuts grow in between, Palawan is the ONLY place to go.
For a quiet, tourist (got the amenities you would like without the hustle you don't want) type get away, use Bohol as your base and travel out from there if you want a change of scenery. |

So I assume from this thread that there isn't a significant amount of rain in Boracay during the last week of July first of August.
Many of the Websites don't mention August at all, Just that the season starts in September and off season is May-July. |

May to July is the Phillipine "summer" dry period.
August is hit and miss for rain.
All the places (except Palawan) that were mentioned in this thread are in the Visayas (central) region of the Philippines and are in the same weather pattern.
They are less prone to typhoons than the northern (Luzon) part of the Phillipines.
The benefit to Bohol is that there are other things to do on rainy days.
The problem with Boracay is that there is NOTHING to do except get drunk on rainy days. (For some this is perfectly OK and I am not the one to judge). |

| Hey, I was told NOT to go to Boracay in the offseason because of the strong winds. I was there last month and loved it, but I hear it's a different story in the fall. |
