Damn, I hope -no, pray!- that Korean netizens get a hold of this. It would be so telling that Colbert, an American who knows relatively little about Korea, could so easily and effectively parody their hero, due to the fact that his music is basically American with a Korean coat of paint.
By the way, here is the YouTube version.

who cares if bi is #1?
i prefer him over paris hilton...!! why did she even make it on?!
also, it was an international poll.
how many people outside of the US or canada(?) know steven colbert?
i'm sure that his fans voted a number of times too.
bi's been featured in a number of articles in the US last year, so it's not like no one has heard of him. he's not as widely known in the US as some other ppl, but again...what does it matter?
he's doing things for people in asia, people like what he's doing and voted for him. |

What, exactly, is he doing for "people in Asia"? |

| I'm an American in Korea and I had never heard of Steven Colbert or Rain until the Time poll. It looks like I wasn't missing much. |

If that's true, you should rework the terms of the lease on the rock you are living under. |

The funniest thing is, in Korean they call Colbert 콜버트 Call Butt I though its so funny!
At the very beginning they go Endless modesty? they quoted it from him and put a question mark for it .. donno what those xxxxx are for!!! Its like this .
(Seoul news)
American popular comedian Steven Colbert (43) attacked singer Rain (25) outspokenly.
Colbert who is a host of a variety show made fun of singer Rain for taking the first place in the Time on-line poll for most influential people.
Colbert then presented Rains motto from his home page about his belief on endless perseverance, modesty to of his own for infinite.
It says, he compared himself with him, and as an insult he said
see me, from now you xxxxxxx . (i donno what 부르겠어 means but googling it up .. says it comes from the root of the verb to call in future tense! Anyways it says he insulted him. I donno why they dont say what those xxxx are to Koreans!!!)
Then he made a parody to Rains song How to avoid the sun MV and sang it in Korean language to (I guess) prove his influence compared to Rain
In the music video Colbert shows up with the identical cloth and sunglasses even the outfit to Rains MV .. it says he then made sarcastic remarks in Korean on stuff like lets go eat Kimchi together says something about Hyundai Motor ( i dont remember that in Colbert MV) and the emphasis on his song was that he sings in Korean!
In the original MV there was also a scene where Rain throws a frame to the window as a result of him encountered suffering. In Colbert version he threw the copy of Times magazine in the window while yelling! (i guess Koreans dont like people to yell!!)
I dont understand the very last paragraph but its nothing important, cuz it talks about the history of Colbert in Times poll. I guess he has been on the poll for 4 years I think .. stuff like that. |
By the way, is that Rain's picture below? To me, it doesn't look quite like him.
To be fair, though, it seems that Rain himself thought it was funny.

And here's the original Rain video. If you watch it, the parody makes more sense.

There's another article here:
link
More telling though are the comments of the netizens:
조롱한거 절대 아니었습니다. 1
It wasn't making fun of him at all.
I'm not happy to see an article like this (i.e. the article sucks)
Koreans in the States are all happy about Rain being shown on tv...
1
It's a compliment! Reporters writing articles without even checking the facts...
2
Please check the facts before you write an article. |

Steven Colbert's humor is uaully more biting. I guess he was careful because Koreans cry about everything.
Discuss. |
