Umm how exactly does this prove what site you are downloading from or how long it has taken you from start to finish?

plus, you are taking a heavily seeded torrent.. those are obviously not ones that just got released. Smile

I can do the same thing, but what does it really mean? Here is one I just downloaded to prove a point... it was at 10 MB/s but it downloaded so fast I couldn't hit the max.

first of all, if you wanted to do file sharing between people located near each other, i would personally recommend using Direct Connect over Bit Torrent.

secondly, the tracker for the torrent files really doesn't affect d/l speed. it really depends on your connection, the seeders connection, and the connection between the you and the seeders. i don't see why whether a track er being private or public makes that big of a difference.

also the major release groups have a lot of seeders for all their new releases, so it's quite possible to find heavily seeded torrents even for newer releases. in fact i find it easier to find the newer stuff seeded well, this is particularly true for tv shows.

1: If you are asking me to provide you with a video instead of a screenshot then I think I will decline as that would be a major pain in the ass. You are free to disbelieve to your heart's content if my word that those particular torrents both came from public sites isn't good enough for you. I'm certainly not going to lose any sleep over it.

2: This is what is called "switching the goalposts." You originally called hanguker's claim of 700KB/s downloads from public sites "BS." Those screenshots are a specific refutation of that. Clearly, 700KB/s is possible on public torrents.

3: Good for you. This discussion isn't about what is faster. I am perfectly willing to believe that private torrents are faster. However, public torrents aren't all that bad either.

The point is that private trackers (who require a good ratio) encourage others to upload to their potential, not stifle it

er isn't that what the whole purpose of having an "only in Korea" hub??

Who is arguing that public sites are faster than private sites? Nobody.

Who is arguing that public sites cannot provide 700KB/s downloads? You.

as someone who uses both private and public trackers, my experience shows that it really doesn't make a huge difference between you use a public or private tracker as far as *download speed* goes. why? in the end, it's the bandwidth of the main seeders (super seeders) that usually determines the total throughput of a particular file. if you're grabbing a file at 3 MB/s, i bet if you looked at the details of the download, you're getting most of your bandwidth from just a handful of seeders.

i like private trackers because i am able to find the more esoteric stuff that i'm looking for there. but as far as popular stuff goes, the public trackers work pretty damn well as far as i can tell (esp. for all the tv shows i grab).

the reason why private trackers and their ratio doesn't work for download speed is because most uploaders can choke their upload rate and just seed it for longer. that's really the biggest benefit of private trackers, stuff get seeded for a much longer time. all the older stuff i'm looking for, i generally have to go look on the private trackers i have access to.

anyway, i doubt anyone would volunteer to run a FTP, it's just too burdensome on that person hosting the server, that's why P2P means of distributions work so well these days. i still think if you want to exploit the great connection here to share files, you have to go with some form of P2P method so everyone gets to use their connection collectively. if there's just one FTP server, that becomes a bottleneck. i suggest DC because i think it would be easier to keep private and manage, but i don't know how much harder or easier it is to set up a DC hub vs a BT private tracker.

So...

1. Public trackers are very fast and more than adequate for TV or any other popular media.
2. Private trackers are extremely fast let you have access to some obscure files, but you need beg for membership and keep a good ratio. (which is VERY difficult on some privates) See SK's 9MB/s download vs. his 53Kb/s upload rate. This upload rate tends to drop to zero when downloading has finished, in my experience.
3. An FTP "for Korea" is not very practical.
4. I don't think anyone wants to/has funds to create a Korea Torrents tracker and/or site.

My conclusion. We have very fast connections here in Korea. We don't need some special Korea P2P. Go to a torrent search site and find the best seeded version of the file you want on a public tracker. There's is likely not any piece of popular media you can't find and get within the day. If you need some crazy/rare old stuff, find a private tracker specializing in it. You have a better chance doing that than finding it on some special Korean expat server.

If all else fails, post on this forum and I'm sure someone can direct you to a place you can find what you need.

It's a piece of cake, really.

Well, just for argument sake, I will refute this. Here are 2 files that rss feed took when I was at work (approximately 12:30pm).. This is the result right now.. 3:23pm (Korea time). So that is approximately 3hrs.

I have to doubt that YOU have a 2+ share on shows that you've only had a day unless you're using some cheat software. Private trackers are very well known for extremely fast downloads and excruciatingly slow seed-ablilty <is that a word lol>. Check any of their forums...FILLED with complaints. Trust me I've been doing this forever, and I've been on all the "big name" private trackers.

This site is scenetorrents (in my opinion it is harder to keep a good ratio on this site than on bitmetv as most of the users are from Sweden and upload extremely fast to one another. Also, if I was using cheating software, which I am not, I would be banned VERY quickly.

Well we could banter on endlessly about this...but I won't. I lost interest a few posts back.

Public trackers are very fast and very easy. That's my only point.

Over and out.

ok you want to continue this...yawn.

you go download Harry Potter books or ANY file THAT HASN'T been uploaded this week!

You can't reseed it...or it will take you weeks waiting for some shmoe to want it off you and the bazillion other guys who want to get their ratio back up after their 3gig download.

Now you send smart remark back...
Then I respond...
etc.
etc.
Page 10...

The stupidity of this argument is that either of us can simply bulls**t till the cows come home just to "win" the F'ing argument. So bugger off unless you want to come over and show me or vice versa. Shocked

erm... you started this whole argument with this quote:

skconqueror wrote:

Sorry, I have to say BS on your public tracker rate. I used to use mininova when I first came to Korea and never came close to that. I too use private trackers and easily download at 3-4 M/B s as soon as the show is released. I also upload close to that as well. That is just not something you get on a public tracker.

then Thundarr posted some screenshots showing that's it's possible. the fact that you get high speeds on your private trackers doesn't prove that you can't get high speed on public trackers. posting screenshots of your high d/l and u/l on private trackers only goes to show you get good speed on your private trackers, not that it's not possible to get good speeds on public trackers. also, your experience != everyone else's experience, i also get decent speed with the public trackers i use (around 300~500k, i don't pay for the best possible internet connection i can get though).
