I don't think he likes the young esl types in his pub... You will find that there is a totally different perception of him among the older "professional" types and hakwon cowboys. I think he would like his bar to be, arrogantly enough, above "us".

Not sure. Used to drink there a lot, and still get recognised, even if I haven't been back in over a year. Albert and Gunther both know I work in ESL and have never been anything but welcoming to me. Dunno if being 6'8 has anything to do with it, but probably not since he was mad enough to tackle two drunken Kiwis at the same time.

Gunther and Al know me well too and know I work in ESL and they treat me really well. I dont think they like the young hogwon jockey crowd too much (in fact the new LP Korea book says that) but if you are an older univ teacher who just wants to kick back after a hard day and have a couple, they are cool with that. A number of my collegues go there quite regularly.

For me its a great place to start the evening especially a Fri evening, have a couple of drinks blow off some steam then head to a nice rest for dinner with the wife

Isnt part of the fun of 3 Ally the edginess that Gunther and his serving staff give off with their rapidity of asking you if you would like another drink while a quarter of the old still sits in your glass? I cant fault it; it isnt a bad business practice. A movement of the hand to the glass at this late stage bring at least one, maybe two the floor staff over and tells me just how well they have been trained. It is truly relentless. At least you are never thirsty.

As far as I see it, they're just making sure I don't run dry. That would be a far, far greater travesty.

Agreed!!

I can never understand people complaining about not being allowed to sit with an empty glass.

Yes, he grabbed my arm, dragged me through the establishment and out the front door. On christmas, not christmas eve. I was deciding what I wanted and I asked for some water while i perused the menu. Not too much to ask . . .

I enjoy the 3A, my only complaint would be that it closes too early.

I'd also say that the 40ish uni teacher crowd can display obnoxious behavour whilst drunk that would put the 20ish hagwon crowd to shame.

ETA, talking about FT's in general, never had any problems at the 3A with patrons of any age.

Don't know how people get into these messes. Being thrown out for water or going to take a leak. I've been in there with people who have done far worse, and nothing nearly so bad happens. Maybe we get a few comments about our antics or something.

Hell, I've even popped in for a quick leak once or twice...I did it once during the Hi Seoul festival even. Didn't know it was a big deal. Scrooge's has a downstairs bathroom right
