I finally had my first expierence eating this unique korean cuisine. I have to admit it was very delicious. Taste was between lamb and cow meat. A bit chewy also. I really didnt not catch the smell some people claim is too strong. It's very popular around this time of the year and my co-workers now tell me doctors recommend it to patients after being hospitalized. Probably for the same reasons kimchi is recommended for preventing Bird Flu. I encourage you all to try it. Now if I could only stop barking now and then!!! |

Hi,
My fiancee's family owns a number of restaurants...one a dog restaurant. I generally dine there about once a week or so. It's not your run of the mill cheapo sleazy diner....very high class and respectable, as many professionals like doctors and lawyers want a place they can feel comfortable in. Quite a lot of posts both pro and con appear here at Dave's, but many seem to share my view that meat is meat and if it ain't gonna kill you....chow down. It can be prepared a variety of ways and they're all delicious.

Suit yourselves. In my opinion, it's wrong to eat dog. They are man's best friend. It's an act of betrayal. Not to mention how they are beaten to death. I hear the sounds of dogs being tortured everytime I go fishing in the Korean boondocks. It's a sickening sound.
But go along and eat dog and go native and pretend you are really absorbing Korean culture by stuffing your piehole. Eating dog will make your Korean friends impressed. Maybe they will say to you, " You are Korean!" They will beam with delight that you lowered your Western standards to their primitive level.
As for health benefits, the soup isn't anymore healthier than anything else. It's pure nonsense to believe so, and thinking that is in the same league as believing in the healing powers of all the endangered animals that are eaten because they are "good for health." |

Animals are animals.
Disparaging Koreans for eating dogs is like going to India or Middle East,
and eating cows or pigs in the face of those who don't eat.
It is unreasonable and disrespectful. |

| I agree with Dr Buck when he referred to the sound of the dogs being tortured. I work in the countryside and I've heard it too. It's absolutely horrible. You would swear that there were humans in there. Often the other dogs are watching the proceedings too. They go nuts. |

The manner of the animals death is despicable.
But mans' best friend? Please. It's meat. Before they were our best friend, we were their food.
Cultures all over the world use dogs as a source of protein. Mayan, some African, Lao, Viet, Chinese, Kmer, Filipino..... it's just food.
The French eat horse? Are you outraged? Don't be. It's still just meat.
So are you. Please quit smoking, lose some weight, and come see me. |

| How dogs are killed is a lame excuse not to eat dog. If you eat meat or pork, those animals are killed. They alll suffer death to serve human needs. What is the difference really? |

Dogs are simply more useful than just becoming someone's dinner, that's the simple fact.
Its fine that you don't have a problem with it. Don't forget to tell folks back home and hope for a good response.
