|
|
i am currently on the search for some public school work. I've gotten a few offers and so far 2 have offered me 2.3mil (stating that becuase i will have 2 years experience by August and a TEFL 100 hour certificate, this is the going rate). However I just go another offer and that recruiter tells me the other 2 are wrong and that I will only make 2.1mil with the aforemention exprience and certificate. Which is true? I am applying for work in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Is it possible i am applying too early before the regular hiriing time of June-July? so, 2.1 or 2.3: what am i worth? |

With 2 years of experience and a 100 hour TESOL you will make 2.3/month. SMOE recently changed their pay scale, so you may want to verify this. |

Don't believe any recruiters. Go to the EPIK/GEPIK or whatever official website and study the criteria. They are fairly straight forward. Sorry I don't know all of the hiring bodies or websites... |

Please help and/or just let me rant. Thanks in advance for any advice. Hopefully I don't come across as a crazy, overly demanding, pain in the as*.
I am getting slightly frustrated. I have sent my resume and picture to many recruiters. They have all contacted me about positions but they are not listening. I have said only public school positions will be considered. This is because I have had a less than pleasant hagwon experience. So...several bombarded me with hagwon offers.
Some listened and sent me offers for different public school positions. One sneaky recruiter sent an after-school offer that he tried to pass off as a regular public position. I told them location is not really an issue. I have been married for nine years and can be happy anywhere.
I stated that the housing must be modern, clean, and decently spacious. How does that get turned into old, dirty, crappy villa? Really? I have been told that housing will be decided once they choose a teacher and the contract is signed. Do these people think that I am a complete idiot? What a bunch of horsesh*t. I will not live in a tiny piece of crap.
One public school contract said that the hours MAY follow the Korean civil servant work hours. It does not specify those hours. It goes on to say that the work hours may be changed if deemed necessary by the principal. WHAT??? |

So ignore them. It's your privilage and their loss.

Most of the time (I am not saying all the time), housing for a public school teacher is in a reasonably modern officetel. Family housing should be a 2 bedroom apartment.

I think that clause is in ALL public school contracts. What it means is that some schools are 8:30-4:30, some are 8:40-4:40, some are 9-5.
Your contract should have a clause that says something like:
Article 7(Work Hours)
1.Employee shall work eight ( hours per day including lunch hour for five (5) calendar days per week from Monday to Friday and shall not work on Saturdays, Sundays and Korean national holidays.
2. The Work Hours of Employee shall follow the normal work schedule of civil servants of the Korean Government; however, such Work Hours may be adjusted by school principal as he/she deems appropriate as necessary.
so you still are only in the school for 8 hours per day, 5 days per week and home for supper.
Quit stressing. It's not a hakwon.

Thanks Ttompatz. You really do give good advice. I suppose I am just trying to prevent another unpleasant experience. I really do want to believe that there are good schools. Perhaps I am slightly naive. We really enjoy living here and want to stay for many more years. We just do not enjoy inconsideration, etc. from our employer.
Sorry to get off topic. |
