I'm really keen to do this for my 5th grade science class. I have the "Mythbusters" Ep. (thank god for torrents) and have the lesson/experiment writing part all sorted.

BUT...Where can I get Mentos?

AND Where can I get rock salt?

Please let me know if you done this experiment.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure why you need rock salt (I did this with various brands of soda and Mentos in the States) but you can find Mentos anywhere. FamilyMart often has them, hell, the little stalls on subway platforms have them.

Thanks.

Mythbusters said rock salt actually works best because of its surface.
They also said that only the plain white menthos work.

I think we used the fruity multi-colored Mentos and it worked too.

Still don't think the rock salt is important.

Suggest you go to the corner store and buy some Mentos and a bottle of Diet Coke...

Here are two video clips that I added to my 'mentos' lesson:

http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/experiment/00000109
This is the 'original'. It is a news segment type clip from the man who started it all...They suggest/ demonstrate that mentos and diet coke works best. We ate the other flavors and used the mint mentos for the experiment. You can find mentos all over the place in Korea!! (I bought bulk packs at 'Lotte Mart' supermarket)

http://one.revver.com/watch/27335
This was on 'youtube' but then it was transfered to revver. The 'scientists' have choreographed exploding bottles with music...many variations on a theme....
